I didn’t get this, must be a holding email of sorts.
Interesting, seems it hasn’t gone out to everyone on the waiting list either. Not sure if this is a good sign for us, or not…
When I’m paying my Amex bill, I don’t really want to be mistyping the number on my next payment. If I have done it once, I know it will work the next time.
Asked about Google pay:
“I’m glad you ask that question, it only indicates your interest on using the Chase card as often as possible. Though, as of the moment the google pay is not yet available. We don’t have an exact date when it will be launched. Rest assured we are working on it as soon as we can, we know that it will be one of the convenient feature for Android users. We will keep you posted through our marketing notifications for any updates on the card features.”
How fast did Monzo in its early days get Google pay?
No I totally get that, but most of my transfers aren’t to pay credit cards; for Amex I would just pay via their own app (then you’ll never put the wrong number in) or the few transfers that do pay bills would be standing orders so that’s all set up.
Most of my transfers are paying friends for things so I’d want to be able to type what it was each time. Ideally nothing at all!
That’s why the Monzo approach is great.
You can set a “default” reference, which you can leave blank if you want to.
So for your friends, you would leave it blank and then there is no extra step - necessitating you removing the irrelevant old reference before typing in what you want. For a credit card bill (or similar), the correct reference is already there and never needs to be changed - plus Monzo allows a payee nickname, so those corporate holding accounts which often require general account names, plus a certain reference, can be more readily identified.
Hopefully Chase develop their offering into something a bit more like that, as they already have payee nicknames which is a very good start (a lot of banks don’t).
Definitely. I was surprised they allowed nicknames too, and then each account can also be renamed, so for my partners I have:
Name of Partner
- Barclays Account
- Monzo Account
- Chase Account
So are an individual’s various accounts stored under the one payee profile? If so, sounds like it’s giving Starling (which I’ve considered to be the gold standard when it comes to payee management UI) a run for its money in that department!
Yes, exactly!
It’s similar to both Starling and Monzo (but is visually presented in a similar way to Monzo).
Ok nice! Can you set a profile photo for each payee? It baffles me why Monzo won’t let you do this!
I don’t think you can, unless I’ve not found the setting!
Ah ok, Starling still wins payee design then… for now at least! One other thing: does Chase match up incoming transfers to saved payees? For example, with Starling if you’ve got a payee saved as John Smith and he transfers you £10 it will show as £10 incoming from ‘John Smith’ (along with the profile photo), whereas with Monzo it would be displayed as however the sending bank formats the name, often something like ‘SMITH J,’ and it really annoys me!
It seems to have my name formatted the same as the payee format but I’m not sure if that’s how Monzo show it as to any other account. I will check.
Whoever mentioned photos, you can’t add payee photos on Chase afaik
Ok, thanks for that
Yes, I believe Monzo is sensible in that it uses Firstname Lastname as the format when you make a transfer out, whereas HSBC for example formats it as LASTNAME FM (last name and then first and middle name initials).
I just have my debit card details stored in my Amex account and just pay that way. I think that’s easier and simpler than trying to pay via transfer.
So it looks like this (sorry I redacted pretty much everything) but you can add as many “accounts” under one name as you like:
Has someone been reading this thread, or do we have a mole…
More likely I’m behind the curve
“Even create a Pot for making charity donations”
RSPCA???
? Monzo launched that a couple of weeks ago and it’s been going though the media circles since then.
Lost how it’s connected to chase
