Chase UK Chat (Part 1)

Yeah I was offered £15000 in the pre-approval.

I don’t know what Chase would offer me, but my top credit limit is £8k

When I was working, my highest was with MBNA and five figures, but that too was before they’re takeover

Has any one found out if direct debits or payments from outside of Chase can be set up?

I was just offered £10k with the 18 months but don’t use Chase as my main account.

The app only has the ability to set up a payment from a Chase account. When it generates statements it should include bank account details. Never seen a bank not have the ability to make external transfers in, so may be limited to that, but no external direct debit option that I can see.

This is the interface for it:

Can choose minimum, statement or fixed amount.

Done,
But I only have £7000

That is certainly weird.

Never held a credit card that has forced me to pay by DD from its own provider, in 40 years :man_shrugging:

Must be a way to set up externally, surely

Not got a Monzo Flex?

I’m sure there is - but they’ve decided for this one, at the moment, they’ll only setup for payment to come from their own account.

It could be because it’s still ‘beta’ and they don’t want to hook up into the national payment system just yet, or it could be that it’s been decided that they want to encourage CC customers to use their Current account more - by making them use it to pay their credit card bill.

Is there additional charges that have to be process whenever something is paid by direct debit as well? Could be a way of reducing those.

If they send you an invite to join the beta, tell them you wont be signing up because of this restriction - if they spot a trend, it’ll encourage them to change their approach.

I had a very friendly chat with a guy from chase who said that he was really surprised that’s still existing customers can’t return. He said that it was completely not their plan to not let people come back and did stress it is purely a system limitation. He said he feeds back every time a customer calls about this and can only hope that it is in the works. So yes I think it will eventually happen. When? No clue.

Agreed

It would appear they are mainly inviting the users who use their chase current account as their main one, so I’m not sure many people who would feel put off by this would get the chance to voice feedback until they fully launch it

Nope, not that, or at least not exactly that. I’ve been using it as my main for a couple of years now and no invite.

I blame Al Gorithm.

Long standing but not full on customer. I have an excellent credit score, on Chase as well, and get credit offers from all over - but not from Chase.

Que sera. I certainly cannot understand being attracted by a ‘pretty’ card. Different strokes…

He’s got a brother called Lo

Showing your age, there.

Just don’t mention trigonometry. Going off at a tangent…

I use Chase as a spending account for the cashback, but not as a main account, I don’t get my salary paid there nor do I have any DDs going out, and yet I have the credit card apply button visible. So maybe Chase’s definition of ‘main’ account isn’t that robust, or maybe they are pushing the credit card to ‘spenders’ rather than what we consider ‘main’ account users.

I think Chase is excellent, good rewards with the 1% cashback, good app (aside from the lack of dark mode) and very efficient. Their customer service has been good for me. I’m really happy with them.

This credit card offering is pathetic. It’s worse than not offering one as it makes me think less of the brand, couldn’t be any less exciting if it tried. Now if it offered 1% cashback (or paying it off from their debit card qualified for cashback) it would be a no brainer and I’d use it 99% of the time but nope.

What a shame.
