Chase UK Chat (Part 1)

Ahhh, yes definite similarities :joy:

There American Ads aren’t much better lol

Ah the infamous ā€œcan I talk to a real person 24/7?ā€ ad.

Chase copying. Monzo lying.

So, I actually had a survey through from Chase earlier this week.

It was actually just 2 questions - so not much of a survey. The first question was 'Would you recommend Chase to Friends and Family, and why?

The 2nd question though was a bit ā€˜weird’. It was something like ā€˜How would you feel if the Chase app was no longer available?’

Also, this whole argument over the Chase ads is a bit silly. Monzo did not come up with the concept of ā€˜Voiceover explaining something with customer on screen’. In the early 2000’s when Smile launched as a bank they had something similar, and RBS ads from 4 or 5 years ago explaining features of the account, like locking your card when you’ve misplaced, were the same.

It’s a very simple concept.

If Chase had gone with a black horse stalking people around the country, then yes, I’d say they’d definitely be ā€˜inspired’ by ads from another bank… But not just ā€˜here’s someone telling people what the account can do’. That’s too generic.

And as you say, it’s got people talking and noticing.
So as an advert, it’s done it’s job well, and they probably see it as a success.
Chase won’t be the first to nick someone else’s ideas and definitely won’t be the last.

Nerds on a banking forum.

The general population isn’t comparing/caring/noticing.

Good point, but I expect Chase will be relying on those that see it while watching some random Youtube video or when it pops up on something like Twitter to take notice too.

Are they actually advertising on TV? I ask because although I have seen their ads online, and heard them on the radio, I haven’t seen them on TV yet.

They’re definitely advertising on online streaming services (not just youtube - but I’ve been watching a lot of Pluto TV a lot as well and they’re repeated a lot on there).

And I think I’ve seen them on some of the more ā€˜obscure’ Sky TV channels like the Ancient Alien’s channel (or ā€˜Sky History’ as it’s labelled in the EPG).

Yes - I saw at least three times on Saturday. It was probably Sky Sports.

They’re also really pushing their ads on BA. Took a few flights with them recently and Chase is one of the first ads played before all of their on-demand content.

No. The competitor has planted the seed. Now your advert can make the conversion.

could you share the same also?

We knew about these features but I guess a little update is nice x

It’s refreshing whenever I see an app with actual update notes now and not ā€œminor bug fixes and enhancementsā€ regardless of the change.

Been with Monzo since pretty much the beginning. Flex? Nope. Ā£1k overdraft? No probs… go figure…

Do I need the overdraft? Nope. But flex would have been nice to have

Chase offer better interest rates, Chase it is

Not sure how virtual card number works with TfL. Will TfL show trips made with physical chase card if one enrolls the virtual card number?

Flex would have been nice to have.

I could have used Monzo for the larger payments and transfer in to cover the payment

Only difference right now is the interest rate.

For me Monzo doesn’t have Flex, sure, they offer it, but considering I am not eligible, they could offer the world, but if I am not eligible, then it doesn’t matter if they offered it or not

I’m not 100% on the math or logic but if you removed the overdraft are you then eligible for Flex?

Can’t remember who said but they amended their overdraft amount and something else changed. Could have been a loan though.

I’ve Ā£2k overdraft, Ā£2k flex but not allowed a loan. Baffles me :joy:

Had Chase since it opened up but not used it.

However started using Chase for savings rather than sitting in a Monzo pot. Monzo is still my main though.
