It’s faster than the Chase app. At least the balance is accurate when you login and you don’t have to wait a few seconds for it to update.
I have to disagree on a personal experience. Barclays literally has a scrolling wheel when I click on anything, load anything new up, scroll too fast on the main screens.
Chase I have zero issues with, even if the balance doesn’t update instantly (which I’ve not found personally), there aren’t constant loading scrolls everywhere.
Barclays feels like webpages just in an app.
Chase is pretty quick on iPhone, was always slow and clunky on android.
For the small time I was with Barclays I completely agree. The app was at best clunky, at worst fundamentally broken.
I’ve never known so many error codes and faults, only Lloyds can complete with that.
I had a few problems with the Barclays app when I first opened my account, five years ago, but I haven’t any for the last few years, and I’ve never had any problems with Lloyds.
Never had an issue with Lloyds ![]()
Virgin Money is the worst for this.
I must’ve been unlucky. Nearly every time I opened the app to do things I got one error code or another. Same with Lloyds.
HSBC, never once except for the plan tab which consistently didn’t work for a few months for balance (but has since been fine)
It does feel like Barclays has changed it’s approach. I used to bank with them, and did so for years.
I tried to open up an account via the app and was told I needed to take ID to my local branch. Upon doing that I was told I needed to book an appointment to open an account, the earliest appointment was 1 months time.
They weren’t busy but won’t see if you don’t have an appointment. It’s not helpful at all.
Anyone here signed up to Barclays Avios Rewards? Seems like a good deal £12/m for 1,500 Avios points. Then every year you get either 7k Avios points bonus or a BA cabin upgrade voucher.
I have it literally for the Avios and the joining bonus, don’t use the account at all.
Sadly not eligible for the new customer bonus as I have had a Barclays account for a while.
Ah then I it’s debatable if it’s worth it for you; £144 for 18,000 Avios (plus the voucher). 80p per Avios is still fairly decent.
Don’t you need to be a Premier customer, too? i.e. have an income of at least £75,000 p.a. or £100,000 in savings/investments?
That’s correct.
The free annual upgrade voucher has convinced me, I’m in.
Technically yes. However if you already have a Barclays account and upgrade they don’t check income for the first year, and then charge £20 a month for the account.
I don’t use it at all. I’m using it for one year before I close it.
In that time I’ll have spent £144 on 44,500 Avios and an upgrade voucher (32p per Avios) which is very good value.
I recall receiving communication from them deciding not to introduce the £20 fee for the time being. I imagine they’ll just downgrade your account if you don’t meet the income or savings/investments criteria after a year.
I have a question about Barclaycard. I know you can change the type of card, if you were to move from a rewards card e.g. Avios to Platinum. Would you be eligible for the 0% interest free period?
Pretty sure that’s only an introductory offer when you take the card out as a new application.
Thanks both, I thought as much.
