Barclays do something called ‘contactless cash’ on Android. I wonder if it works with IOS too? I have pinged the barclays chat via Apple business chat, but they don’t seem very forth coming with replies
You’d expect if it worked with iOS, Barclays would put that on the website, wouldn’t you?
I would assume so, I guess it doesn’t work with iOS, which is a bit odd, as you’d think it would be trivial to have it work with Apple Pay, all it has to do is read the card data (it’ll be a lot more complex than that i’m sure, as apple pay randomizes the card) - I may try it anyway, just to see, as I’m out in town. fully expecting it not wo work
I’m sure this has been out a while now, solely Barclays machines as noted on their site.
Never personally used, but think I recall seeing it some way back pre covid but didn’t use it as I’d already put my card in.
Yes, it is solely Barclays machines that allow this, you can’t just use a random card
Does it only work with Barclays cards? I thought it would be machine level, not own brand.
Only works with Barclays cards, yes. In the U.S, they work on a machine level - nothing stopping them implementing the same here, apart from the cost ,obv
Well the rollout would be rather costly for a UK whole project but it’s rare I have my card on me, only mainly for a haircut as my barber doesn’t take card
Just think of the innovation though, no need for people to carry their cards at all!
Some don’t want cashless society but then don’t carry cards about… so would be better to have contactless withdrawals via phone.
It does infarct work on iOS! Apple Pay scanned successfully, but since I haven’t activated the card I was unable to actually use it
That’s what they told me in branch anyway - going to go back with my card (when I get my custom one) and try it!
I did notice that they do have some the good English, this was when I attempted to view the pin for my new custom card that hasn’t yet arrived
Exactly the same here, the only time I use cash is when I have a haircut! Driving to an ATM is part of the routine of going to the barber for me. Really wish they would take card!
As promised my custom card which is very well made
I do realise you guys could probably guess the numbers that I attempted to hide
That’ll make you want to get the card out more to pony up - ba-dum, tish
NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank NI allow this through codes generated in their respective apps. You can withdraw at any of their ATMs or a Tesco Bank ATM.
I agree that full Apple Pay ATM support would be better, but it would probably only ever come as part of a LINK network upgrade in this country and is now not likely to happen as we become increasingly cashless anyway.
Far too many probably, literally dozens!
My credit history is decent though so it doesn’t seem to be an issue - most of my accounts are fairly old. I’d rather keep accounts going in case I need them again then keep opening and closing accounts with different banks which makes your credit file look unstable.
But what about the switch bonuses‽
I’ve pretty much done them all, which usually counts you out of future ones (at least for a few years)!
By and large, I tend to open new (spare) accounts and then switch those, keeping at least one account with each major bank in case they (for example) launch a new savings product only available to existing customers or (less likely) I need to use a branch - which lets me use virtually any.
I tend to then usually keep the switched-into account for the long term, rather than switching in a “merry go round” fashion. I try to keep my average account age high through this method, as it’s a key metric for credit stability.
I always thought average age of accounts was not too important. Maybe I shouldn’t have closed my longest standing account recently?
