The main brands Geely, SAIC, Dongfeng, First Automobile Works, Chery and Changan are all guilty.
2021 is a different game to be fair and the new EVs appear to be decent quality though, but I’m not overly familar other than watching a few youtubes now and then.
BYD I’m only interested in via T212.
The MG 5 EV is essentially the same popular Roewe i5 with the badges swapped out.
This is an interesting report of an epic journey made by an MGEV owner.
Anyone thinking of buying one would benefit from other posts on there. No doubt there will be niggles and complaints aired, that’s what car forums are said to be for
Volkswagen says it will reveal the car VW ID.5 GTX
at the IAA Munich Motor Show this September. The new e-car is the first to utilise the Group’s MEB platform in the form of an SUV coupé and will appear as a near-production concept at the show before going on sale next year
This car might just be the car to that goes head to head with the Tesla Model Y and comes out on top, eventually we will discover.
Electric aside I find an SUV coupe to be a strange combination. In my opinion it defeats the purpose of an SUV.
Then as you said, when you combine that with the mission of being “greener”, why not just make them smaller or go all out and make a proper SUV that is practical? Rather that this weird middle ground that is neither one nore the other
Even for school and shopping trips I find them a bit of an odd choice. (no offense to anyone )
It’s like I walk into a showroom and say: I want a large vehicle that can safely and comfortably carry my entire family. It must have lots of room and storage space in the back for all my shopping, pram and baby stuff etc.
So the salesman picks out a flashy SUV and I say, “that’s perfect, but squash everything and make it smaller” There is born an SUV Coupe
I’d rather have a hot hatch than a Chelsea tractor. If nothing else, even for an electric car adding so much weight makes little sense from a range point of view.
While I agree that SUVs are a weird segment, I’m pretty sure compact SUVs are the fastest growing segment so it absolutely makes sense for manufacturers of EVs to go that route if they want to sell.
I’ve been noticing a lot of brand new ford pumas on the road recently;
Only when compared to other electric cars. Comparing any EV to a petrol or diesel car is still a massive reduction in environmental impact.
SUVs are the flavour of the month for all car dealers - not just EV’s and there are non-SUV EV’s available - the Mini Electric, Fiat 500e and the Honda-e for example (that last one is very polarising though on if you like or loathe it…)
Guessing it would be nice to have everything under one easy to use app, going forward.
Edit - I’ve downloaded it, it’s useless in its current form, shows no charging points in my area, nearest is 15 miles away. I know of at least 12 now in my local area.
That sounds a lot like was Zap Map currently does though? And Zap Map also, if I remember rightly, have even signed up with some chargers to allow you to pay through their app as well.
Pretty much yeah, if I compare the 2 together for my location this new competitor one needs to go in the bin I’m sure it’ll improve but it’s like looking at a desert right now.
