Someone is prepared to listen and actually do something constructive to support it’s members
Whoop. I look forward to an update… its been long awaited…
Is this an official things now? Last time I spoke with them they would support an existing overdraft not not discuss or assess/enable one.
Great news if so, but again where are the comms for that
I spoke to them the other day and just received the scripted response
I’m afraid that my experience around overdrafts is still a sore subject
I’m happy to keep my legacy bank up and running for that very reason as I have no issues with them on overdrafts and loans
Not eligible could be the standard response for everyone on chat at the moment. As in only someone that has has been assessed and has the option in the app would get an in chat response saying yes they are eligible. And everyone else getting the same ‘not at this time’ response.
I know
Something that Monzo followers seem to state quite often
I would absolutely expect to be able to opt out of marketing (being offered an overdraft) so that is great news and is indeed what you wanted.
But there is no mention you can ask for an overdraft by chat and that it will be assessed as part of the chat.
I am not upset at not being offered one. I am trying to highlight the process has some flaws that need to be addressed in the interest of Monzo.
I am trying to make this as clear as I can in my posts. I have not once stated I am dissapointed at not being offered one and a do not consider myself entitled. I have actually received positive comments in how I am trying to debate this so struggle to understand your comments.
For you to come to that conclusion I feel you have not actually read through the comments. Monzo have accepted there are elements that have not been covered correctly and need to be addressed.
All the above is in the good spirit of improving the experience
with respect Sebastian, Tristan (from Monzo staff ) has acknowledged that the way that overdraft testing was handled has been lacking over the months that it has been in testing phase
It’s also a topic that has been discussed/debated a lot on this forum
In doing so it has raised some very valid points from both sides of the room
@fruityseb I think you rather missed the point of this discussion. It has nothing to do with whether people are eligible or not but the way in which Monzo has rolled out the product combined with a lack of communication to those people who registered an interest in early beta testing. @anon50039658 has acknowledged there has been some communication issues here.
If only it really was as simple as being down to eligibility - I think most people would be happy either way - if only they actually knew…
In terms of the UX the overdraft rollout has not been great at all. We’ve seen a complete lack of clarity over communications, and a magic ‘enable’ button in the UI which simply isn’t there for many people, yet it’s described clearly on the overdrafts feature page on the website. This just serves to create confusion.
Looks like we are just going round in circles again
Unfortunately it has been going round in circles because certain Monzo supporters cannot understand that maybe something is going wrong or is wrong with a process
Blimey
Do we have to keep bashing on about the same old thing over and over
This item is being looked at by people further up the chain as it has now (at long last) been recognised as something is not quite right
@alexs where did your posts go? I can see the responses but not the posts they are based on. Very confusing
Cloak and dagger now
In the spirit of transparency:
@alexs and I have exchanged DMs.
The result is that Alex chose to remove a couple of posts and in order to keep the flow of the conversation making any sense - and importantly back on topic - I’ve done the same and deleted a couple of my (now out of context) posts.
Hopefully we can get back on topic now rather than disagreeing amongst ourselves!
I think it’s going round in circles because it’s hard for us as humans to deal with people having an opposing view, discuss it, come to no resolution and then just let the matter drop . The alternative to this last step is to circle
@bea @cookywook I have to say I really dislike the 50p a day charge for going overdrawn. It massively penalises people who only go slightly overdrawn. Wouldn’t an interest rate be much, much fairer?
I recently went £30 overdrawn with Barclays for just over a month (it’s not an account I check regularly any more) and I was charged almost £30. With Monzo you will end up with something similar, albeit slightly less.
I feel the daily charge is just a way for nasty banks to overcharge for overdrafts without having to publish an obscene interest rate. If you were £250 overdrawn for a year you’d have paid 72% interest! (I freely admit that I don’t know exactly how APRs are calculated).
Also I don’t remember there being a consultation in the same way there was a consultation with the foreign cash withdrawal changes. I’m worried that although Monzo had good intentions in the beginning the need to make money (which is fair) is reducing their ideals and will make them much like the other banks.
No you wouldn’t, you’d pay around half that with Monzo.
