Amex (American Express) Discussion

They’re fantastic! I had a fraudulent transaction for nearly £2000 and they refunded it the same day. They also sent a courier with a new card and I received it the next morning

Interestingly a lot of Amex cards don’t have Section 75 protection as they’re not technically credit cards.

They offer their own type of protection similar to S75 - but it works a lot smoother and quicker.

That’s only the charge cards (Basic card, and whatever they call the business one), most of them are regular credit cards.

Platinum too

Don’t think so, the terms and conditions on the card state it has Section 75 protection.

Ah, looks to be changing.

Already have a Platinum Charge or Credit Card? If so, please read the information before applying for the new Platinum Credit Card.

I have the charge one it appears

Depends whether you have old Platinum or new Platinum. Look the same, fee is the same, one is a charge card and one is a credit card.

Interesting, vaguely recall this being mentioned a little while ago now. Does that mean it never used to have a credit limit?

Amex also offer purchase protection. I had a bike stolen shortly after buying it on my card. Amex refunded me for the bike (minus £50 excess).

Changed to a credit card, back in Aug 2022 for new applications!

No, they approve or decline a transaction based on what they think you can afford. Based on past usage and stated income etc. It’s all a bit opaque but these days you can basically tell them if you’re planning to make an unusually large purchase and they’ll give you a yes or no.

Ah okay, that’s the same as the Basic charge card has.

Makes sense that they’d offer that for all charge cards.

Very glad I decided to commit to the AMEX tier point offer!

Just had my first 750 awarded and after taking into account a very expensive work trip I have coming up I’ll be just 22 points away from BA Silver. I can just buy £22 worth of SAF and I’ll hit the tier :slightly_smiling_face:

I downgraded to the basic and only just upgraded again now I can pay my rent via Amex and hit the new horrible high spend of £15,000 a year.

So I’m hoping they have something in place for next year. Though even if they do unless BA continue with the bonus TP’s for bookings I doubt it would make a difference.

Oh nice, it’s always a nice surprise when you can pay for items like that via AMEX. I’m finding it useful that quite a few government services accept AMEX like vehicle tax and the big one for us was AMEX being accepted for the visa fee and healthcare surcharge.

Yeah similarly waiting to see if this comes back next year. Hopefully aligning with the full tier point year rather than this weird partial year we got this time around.

New offer showing this morning - not seen something to offset fuel (or armfuls of Cornish pasties) before

Another offer that is no use to people in NI … Oh well

Tried to use this today, the only Shell garage I could reasonably get to was closed for refurbishment and then had to go on a slow detour due to roadworks to end up at Tesco anyway
