Oh I love a good Spoons.

Spoons has a bad reputation but some of their food is underrated. Their pizzas are hand made fresh and are very good.

Spending £30 will be a bit of a mission though lol.

I’ll make it work somehow.

Wetherspoon pizza is surprisingly decent.

Dayem - did a £40’ish round at a Manchester 'Spoons on a big group Xmas markets pub ‘crawl’ (yup, we’re all gettin-on-a-bit so by 8:30 it slooooowwed down a touch) last Thursday and thought that was quite the achievement.

To get a tenner back would have been nice :clinking_beer_mugs:

(How about a big Monzo Community meet-up in a Manchester 'Spoons in between Xmas and New Year? - First round on me…)

putting aside my thoughts on the owner, I like a good Spoons too, but there are some bad Spoons out there. The thought of the one in Shepherd’s Bush still gives me PTSD, and I’ve not been there for about 15 years.

I’ve got the offer too - you’d probably need dinner and drinks for three to hit the £30 in one transaction. (Or would they let you open a tab? Been a while since I’ve left my card behind the bar in a pub!)

I guess the £10 Cashback can go towards the dry-cleaning bill after I’ve sat in my local ‘Spoons

Oh I don’t have much in the way of an option on Tim - disagree with him on some things but he clearly can build a business brand.

Some of the best pubs (architecturally) I’ve been in have been Wetherspoons. Usually I’m there for a cheap quick pint before an event or journey though. Just never had an “awful” time in one; just don’t go in with expectations and you’ll be reet.

I’d be utterly shocked if a tab was an option!

Just had this notification of a free subscription on email. Would’ve preferred a FT sub but still a nice surprise

Nice surprise for £650 fee :cowboy_hat_face:?

Is this the website or just the app?

If it’s the app only it’s worth £20 a month. If it’s the website too then it’s worth £30 a month.

So a pretty decent benefit.

I would have preferred FT as well personally.

The subscription is unlimited smartphone, web and tablet access.

Do you have the credit card or older charge card product? I have the latter and haven’t had this (though I do get the extra supplementary cardholders which is useful).

Do you have both of them?

Credit - to activate the subscription I had to go through the ‘Amex experience’ app (which I’d never heard of til today). The offer isn’t listed on the platinum benefits web page for some reason.

No, I’m not paying 2 annual fees! I’m still on the charge card product which I’ve had since 1990. It’s now discontinued but they’ve not so far forced people to change to credit card which requires a new application and is a completely different product.

The benefits for the two have been kept pretty much in line up to now, except that the credit card has Section 75 protection and the charge has something similar but not the same, and the charge card allows up to 5 supplementary cardholders rather than 1.

Thanks, just checked and it is indeed in the Experiences app.

Now I just have to work out how to activate it…

If I click on the link given, the only way to set up an account appears to be to pay to subscribe. There’s no way to create an account without doing so.

Edit: scrub that. You scroll all the way to the bottom for a big Enroll Now button.

Times/Sunday Times: if you call them up and haggle a bit, they offer an annual sub for ~£120 (paid up front). I only ever read it on my phone but I just tried logging in on desktop web browser and it worked. So to me it’s only worth about £10/month.
(And they don’t mind password sharing either).
