Amex (American Express) Discussion

I’ve got it on my Platinum card.

Thing is I don’t even fly with BA due to not being in the vicinity of an airport they operate in.

That’s probably why you see it and some don’t though. I don’t have it on either of my cards.

Time to book my Christmas flights.

I don’t have it :frowning:

Though while looking at the offers I noticed that both the UK and abroad dining credit offers expire on 31/12/24, same time as the Harvey Nichols credit – does anyone know if these will be extended, or if Amex will be overhauling the Platinum card by the end of the year?

I was planning on getting a pro-rata refund when I’m back from the US in the autumn, but if there’s a chance of a more decent card offering for the fee (who am I kidding, we’re in the UK), I might keep it until renewal date.

Edit: I do have a very similar 10% back at Expedia up to £100 offer so that’s nice. Though I have never used Expedia and I find it odd that Amex would be promoting a rival travel company.

I’ve got it (Nectar), again probably because I’ve never spent any money with BA.

Doesn’t Amex own Expedia or something like that?

No, AMEX does not own Expedia. However, there is a significant connection between the two companies. American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) acquired Egencia, which is Expedia Group’s corporate travel arm, back in November 2021 I think.

HN credits may go but the dining credits apparently going to stay. I think they’ll be an update between October - December about this. They may just extend the date without any fuss like what’s been going on with Deliveroo for the Gold card, as it’s been extended like 3x by now I swear.

Hm, it would be good to know; though I’ll most likely end up downgrading to Gold anyway for a year then I may even do the blue card.

Hard to justify the annual fee on all these cards now. Gold at almost £200 is a lot.

Yes, I’ve just the Rewards card myself, never booked flights on the card before.

I guess it’s linked to previous spending then. I can see why they’ve done it that way, but it would have been nice for previous customers to have at least got a reduced offer.

Just because I’ve flown with them recently doesn’t mean I won’t pick an easyJet or a Eurowings or something over BA for my next flight.

Oh well, it is what it is.

Closest I’ve got is 10% off the Heathrow Express. :frowning:

No they don’t - but Amex and Expedia have tangled together in a few ways.

American Express outsources its online booking platform (Amex travel). Expedia is the contractor in the UK and US and the website is just reskinned Expedia with FHR rates added.

Amex also spun out their corporate travel agency and floated it as AMEX Global Business Travel (GBT) whilst retaining a minority stake. GBT later acquired Egencia from Expedia in a cash plus equities deal - meaning both Expedia and American Express are minority shareholders in AMEX Global Business Travel.

New Platinum benefit:

Christmas flights for me and boyfriend all booked. With a 10% back from AMEX

Hoping he not on this forum. As this trip is meant to be a surprise xD

It’s not new, is it not?

I used this benefit back at the beginning of March.

It just popped up in my app, I was never told about it before. So definitely new to me.

To be honest, I don’t think they tell us about everything.

I love paying £650 for benefits I don’t even know about!
