Paying Monzo Loan early doesn't reduce interest?

Hey Ed,

Thanks so much for your reply! :raised_hands:t2:

No worries at all, I appreciate you looking into it.

Good to hear nothing changed with the refresh.

If you’d like a prod account to look at, happy to DM my email address if needed.

@EdSB

Once this has been looked into would it be possible to provide a general update as I was thinking of looking at getting a Monzo Loan soon and like in the past I have always paid them back earlier and would like to know how it works better before doing so.

Read the loan pages.

They’re problem solving here not answering basic questions available in app or online.

My problem is the same as the above. Thank you for sharing though. It might come in useful for someone else.

So you have a monzo loan, and every time you’re making an early payment you’re being charged interest?

Or are you anxious if you take out a monzo loan in the future; the above may be present and deters you from applying?

That’s two wholly different scenarios and your post above refers to you considering a monzo loan and you have questions on it.

Respectfully your input is not needed. My reply was to someone else asking for them to post about the interest issues as I might be considering a Monzo Loan.

I had already shrugged off your first reply. Signposting me to the Monzo Loan Website which I am already aware of. There is nothing further to add. Thank you for signposting to the website. As I mentioned in my last reply. That might come in useful for other people. It doesn’t help my case.

It does work, Monzo are not charging you interest and lying about it.

You don’t have a problem,

You’re on a public open forum, posting daft stuff you’re not impacted by - and likely won’t be - and then referred to questions about a monzo loan.

You then get sent information about a monzo loan, and now become difficult about it.

Lol.

That’s not for you to decide. If there are issues with repaying loans early and getting interest rebates then there is a problem.

Politely asking a Monzo staff member to share if the issue affects everyone and if it has been resolved is not “daft stuff” and that’s only your opinion. It’s not your forum. It’s not Carlo’s Community.

That’s a really way to behave on an online community. You might wish to refresh yourself with the Community Code of Conduct that @cookywook posted:

Forum Etiquette :memo:

We avoid:

  • Name-calling.
  • Ad hominem attacks (criticising a poster personally, not their post).
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content.
  • Replying in a confrontational manner when we see a post we think needs attention (use the flag feature to report it instead).

I actually thanked you for sharing that information and said it might be useful for other people but it wasn’t relevant for me. You should treat people nicer.

You don’t have a loan = you don’t have a problem.

It doesn’t affect everyone, it’s a niche issue raised by one person. I’m sure someone else mentioned it doesn’t impact them.

Guessing you’ve never been on the internet.

Wonder if you’re the same profile that keeps magically appearing to just troll and go crying to admin every time the conversation isn’t in your favour.

Sadly I don’t think the code of conduct is adhered to much anymore, the number of confrontational posts here seems to be on the rise

You’re better than that, Carlo. :disappointed:

I suspect the way the act here and quickly quote such things, they aren’t as innocent or new as they seem.

My points still stand, they don’t have a loan, and were directed to the appropriate place for answers, then became pissy.

Can’t remember the profile name but that person kept being banned again and again after causing ridiculous havoc, and Cooky isn’t mentioned anywhere but all a sudden this person seemed to know who to tag for a scene :joy:

Let’s not play blind to the troll.

That persons name comes up when you search for the code of conduct. Mine got sent by the Monzo bot. I’m not sure who you’re referring so I can’t really comment on that. You’re the only person that has caused a scene on this thread.

I recently joined so I had been made aware of the rules of the website.

Self reflection for yourself. I actually valued your insights, and you should discourse with the aim for a more collaborative and inclusive discussion where everyone’s input is appreciated instead of jumping on your high horse and personally attacking me. I’d say troll behaviour undercuts the way you have behaved towards me. You’re welcome to apologise but thats down to you.

I stopped replying because I have nothing else to add I will keep monitoring regarding the interest and loan issue.

Let’s call it a day now. We don’t know each other personally and we’re being unfair to each other on this thread. I disagree my post was in the wrong. It’s obviously upset you but this isn’t the way to handle things. I’m here to enjoy the community.

lol, ok bab.

To go back on topic

On the subject of the “paying this month early” being expected to reduce interest, what would be the expectation when permanently changing your payment date?

So say you usually paid on the 27th and you permanently moved it to the 7th, would you expect the overall loan to be cheaper because it’ll be paid off 20 days sooner?

Likewise, if you usually paid on the 7th and you permanently moved it to the 27th, would you expect the overall loan to be more expensive because it’ll be paid off 20 days later?

This is clearly an isolated issue that’s probably not even an issue, not an issue generally with Monzo loans. Nobody else is being charged interest on early repayments so quite why it’s being jumped on as a real concern seems strange.

One person. Out of many many many who have a loan. And that one person has done something most people don’t do (repay up to 5 months in advance) so chances are it’s so isolated to their situation nobody will come into this issue again.

It’s not a cause for mass panic over Monzo loans. The page with loan information is correct, use that to decide if you want a loan or not.
