I’m so late to the party with this, but I’ve just realised that you can switch your old Shawbrook savings pots, to Monzo instant access pots, which have much better interest, at the press of a button!
The pot image, name, scheduled transfers, and progress bars etc, all move over too
So naturally I’ve done this with all my personal ones, I come to my joint account, and nope. Cant do it with those
Yeah, I imagine they’ll do similar to Revolut and offer 4% on up to £X, and then the 3.5% on everything above that. What they set that limit at, who knows.
Oh hang on - I got an email about this on the 22 July. However, it says my rates don’t change so I ignored it.
We’ve updated our Instant Access Terms and Conditions and Summary Box because Instant Access Savings will now use tiered interest rates based on your Monzo Plan and any bonuses you may be eligible for. Your interest rate isn’t changing as part of this update – it’s staying the same. Your access to your money isn’t changing either, so you’ll still be able to withdraw whenever you need to.
I got it now too. And I read the summary box now too, it applies the lowest of the tiers between joint parties - so if one has max and the other doesn’t have a paid tier, it’s 2.75% and so on.
*Might be next day access, I’ve not got experience with these providers. I know chip and Atom is instant transfer to linked account, and the Bank of Ireland saver would likely support faster payments, as well as transfer to a BoI current account.
And that’s the trade off. You either have a high interest rate, but it might be next day access, or you have a lower rate but it’s easier to access / it’s already provided by your main bank.
These rates aren’t difficult to find. I use www.finder.com/uk/ to find these rates.
