At some point soon automatically tracking each citizen will become viable, and governments will do this.

Depends on the country and its citizens’ willingness to accept that. In short, not in southern Europe anytime soon. The opposite already happens in China with their “social credits” system, which is pretty scary

I can’t remember the last time I even touched cash. If anything it was when I went to Dublin in Feb, and I got some Euro notes, but even then I used Shared Tab on Monzo and paid everything that way. I even choose to use a Chinese takeaway near me that’s on JustEat so that I can pay through that when I collect, even though there’s a much nicer one closer to me. I hate cash.
