I almost won £1000000 this month on the Premium Bonds. There was only 0000 missing which is nothing really.
Nothing for me this month…again.
£75 for me ![]()
£25 for me, which is not to be sniffed at (although a million would have been amazing!)
Been a few months since I’ve won anything, but I also bought a house last year so the savings have definitely gone down, but managed to get £150 this month which was nice!
I won nothing, as usual. I used to win a lot, but apparently studying abroad is expensive ![]()
Why would studying abroad affect your chance of winning ? Unless you had to sell / reduce some of your Prem Bonds to fund your stay abroad ?
Bingo, no scholarships. Gonna start building it back up though
Prize rate is up to 4.35% (from 3.8%) for September.
Might stick some of my emergency fund back in to Premium Bonds
I’ve still got my £300 in there. Don’t see myself withdrawing from it anytime soon.
Emergency fund and cash I just want to keep aside sits there.
It’s split between there and savings.
If I win, I win. If not then not but you never know!
You are better keeping it all in savings, use an ISA if you can. The idea of premium bonds sounds good but unless you’re regularly winning and winning more than inflation, inflation will be robbing the value of the your money and it will ultimately be worth less in the l medium to long term.
I know you’re right, but I don’t really care.
I put in £25 a month after someone on here said about it and a few of us copied.
I don’t care about the pennies, I’ll take that hit in exchange for the tiny chance of winning. Plus it’s out of sight, out of mind. I won’t touch it.
I’m aware of the benefits of an ISA, hence splitting my money out.
That said I’m a basic rate taxpayer and not likely to exceed my personal savings allowance.
I really don’t care about a few pence on only a portion of my savings.
I’m not eligible for an ISA anymore, but as I don’t get taxed on overseas income
I might as well have the PBs.
Not intending to give any advice here and everyone’s circumstances and amount of bonds / savings they have will be to individual needs.
In my opinion premium bonds are great if you are at or likely to exceeded tax thresholds on savings or you’re ok with lotteries. Even on small amount of savings and investments you have compounding interest (although not guaranteed with investments it’s likely to increase depending on your risk appetite and affordability).
I do have premium bonds of reasonable size but only put in more after I’m at the tax thresholds. Even small balances and interest get reinvested into shares or savings as they compound over time and worth considering as investment unless I’m feeling particularly lucky and hopeful of a windfall from the lottery.
It’s not a lottery.
And I might win £10k, £50k, £100k. It’s the fun of checking the website on the 2nd of every month. With none of the risk of losing my money.
Sure my money loses a bit of value because of inflation, but it’s 2-3% max. Not the end of the world for small holdings of premium bonds.
Sorry, which is it?
That is a narrow view, although accepted for short term. You’re losing considerably more than value RE inflation and not accounting for growth and compound interest.
Any. I could win £25, I could win £1m.
Indeed. Or nothing. So it’s a lottery?
