Hi all,
News broke today that N26 plans on an IPO by the end of the year. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/01/german-digital-bank-n26-plans-to-be-ready-for-ipo-by-end-of-2022.html
Will be interesting to see if Monzo will follow suit.
Hi all,
News broke today that N26 plans on an IPO by the end of the year. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/01/german-digital-bank-n26-plans-to-be-ready-for-ipo-by-end-of-2022.html
Will be interesting to see if Monzo will follow suit.
If you read the article that is not what is actually being said though.
Well, sure the articles says they will be âstructurally readyâ for an IPO. Implying they might delay if the timing is not right.
But my question was really more around speculating what this may indicate for a potential IPO for Monzo. If the other big neo banks are getting ready to IPO already by the IPO, maybe Monzo will be in a simialr position.
You could look at the other 8 billion posts speculating the same thing.
What makes you say that there are a billion posts on this topic? The crowdfunding section for Monzo has seen its last post before mine in January. I ran a search for Monzo IPO and found a thread from Summer last year. So, it looks like there is some potential to talk about this more.
I am a crowdfunding investor and find it interesting to talk about the company. If you donât find that interesting then I donât understand what your point of posting here is. To me it feels like you are just being snarky.
Itâs mentioned frequently in the Monzo in the media thread. Theyâve said not yet but the media keeps trying to speculate
The potential IPO is mentioned at least once a week. There isnât always a new thread but itâs a constant talking point.
â8 billion postsâ?

The number used to be displayed but for overall accuracy now itâs just the number in my post.
Source: trust me
I have no idea what this means?
TS said they could IPO as early as 2023. So if Monzo is anything like any other crowdfunded business in history that means theyâll start thinking about thinking about an IPO from december 2023
The way the world is going I donât think that thereâs going to be much appetite for IPOs in 2023.
Yeah, IPOs are usually an end of the cycle activity, and weâre long overdue the end of this crazy cycle.
All fintech IPOs seem unlikely in the next 12 months now, unless valuation multiples increase significantly.
2008 delayed Facebookâs IPO by four years.
So we are into 2023 - how do we feel about the chances of an IPO before 2024?
I think 2023 has a low chance. 2024 be or 2025 is realistic.
V low. In fact, almost non existent. I might be wrong, but I think these things have a looong lead time, so we would probably be hearing mutterings if not full blown announcements if it were going to be this year.
My best guess (which will be wrong) is Starling in 2025, then Monzo afterwards. 60:40 chance that one of them ends up being a trade sale rather than an IPO in my view.
I see a monzo IPO as quite unlikely at any stage without a big shift in direction. I hope to be proven wrong, having invested in 2018, but for example I went to set up a business bank account in 2022 and went with Starling as monzo doesnât allow partnerships.
Missing functionality such as being able to scan cheques is disappointing when even legacy banks have this feature. When I see debates online about which bank account to go for the majority seem to say Starling.
I think monzo has sadly gone downhill since investing and certainly wouldnât invest now.
I have no insider knowledge of an IPO, but although Monzo doesnât currently fit your needs you canât expect every bank to offer everything. If that was the case weâd only need one bank!
Luckily there are lots of banks which offer a variety of different accounts and services. At the moment more than 7million personal accounts and 200,000 businesses choose to use Monzo, so we must be doing something right for some of the population!
