No plans for Belgium for now, nothing to do with the country itself we’re just very focused on Ireland
.
Much of our app is backend server driven which means that small changes can get written, approved and deployed to production within a few minutes. (Which is why feedback from early access users is so valuable - we can act on it quickly). For changes to our actual Android or iOS code we work to a weekly release
Great question! Sadly, I can’t go into the specifics of our credit limit or overdraft models here.
At a high level though, our approach is very similar to what you’ll see across most financial institutions. Decisions are based on a range of factors such as your account behaviour over time, affordability, and information from credit reference agencies.
We know it can feel a bit opaque, and we’re always looking for ways to make things clearer for customers, but hopefully that gives a bit of context around how these decisions are generally made across the industry.
Thanks for the question! This isn’t something we’re actively planning just yet, as our main focus right now is on building out the core bank account features as part of early access, which we’re currently in.
Once that phase is complete, we’ll be taking a close look at user feedback to understand what features people want most and where we should focus next.
That said, the fact that we already offer this in the UK should help speed things up for Ireland when we do get to that stage.
Not for the moment, but those are good ideas to look into ![]()
Are there credit reference agencies in Ireland? If so, is it a similar system?
I have half a memory it works differently from the UK, but that might be me misremembering…
There’s no such thing as a credit score in Ireland, but there is a credit history. Anybody can request their own history via the central credit register
This seems like a much more sensible system…
Shame the UK can’t move into one central credit file instead of different creditors reporting/searching different or multiple agencies.
Thanks for those, loads to unpack here so let’s dive in ![]()
-
Pension & Mortgage tracker: No plan to offer this in Ireland just yet but we do offer it in the UK and so it will make it easier to build when we get to it.
-
API & Open Banking: If you’re referring to bank APIs, yes we’re restricted with what Open Banking is offering. We’re currently building our connected account product which will allow you to see your other bank accounts activity within Monzo. Hopefully you’ll like it

-
Splits feature: For payments that have been split, you can see that they have been split and what is outstanding by clicking on the transaction. Repayments on the feed are marked with a badge with the initials of the merchant name. Finally, for running splits, the balances and payments are visible from within the split itself (in the payments tab)
-
Custom category: Not sure I understand this one, you can currently create new categories, edit and delete them. You can select the right icon and colour for you too.
-
Forecasting solution: This is super interesting, our current solution allows you to budget, set a target and see how you’re trending towards it but sadly doesn’t look into personal situations/data and doesn’t provide advice on financing options. Definitely a good idea, thanks for sharing.
Parenthood: Monzo was great during parenthood. They offer a generous caregiver leave which allowed me to spend time with my boys and support my partner as much as possible. You do get some flexibility and time off specifically when the children are poorly too.
Thanks for the question! We don’t have any concrete plans on this yet but we’re definitely keen to look into it
I know some people are looking into this problem internally but they’ve only started. No ETA yet but at least it’s on the radar ![]()
Not in the immediate future
We don’t currently offer Direct Debit in Ireland. This will be available in March, once we’ve finalised our SEPA integration.
When it launches, you’ll be able to set up Direct Debits from a regular pot. However, Direct Debits won’t be supported from Savings Pots. This is because we want Savings Pots’ main purpose to be about savings and limit spending interaction
It’s not something we’ve prioritised so far as we’ve not seen a huge demand for it. This may change in the future a we’re seeing an update in larger/foldable device.
I think one thing that would help (both users and your data) would be if the mobile app could also be installed on other formats, acknowledging that it isn’t optimised for them.
Granted Monzo has a “one iOS device only” security model right now (and changing that is another conversation) but those with Android handsets who just wanted to install as a secondary device on MacOS or have a blown up version on an iPad would at least give some robust data as to the actual demand.
I saw on some screenshots from UK customers that they’re able to pin different accounts to the top (such as current/flex/joint).
I currently have a personal and business account with you in Ireland but it doesn’t show as an option to pin my business account. Is this a bug, or are you just not able to have a personal and business account pinned?
Personal and business accounts aren’t pinned in the same way as external linked accounts.
Business accounts use a different profile which you can toggle between.
