Monzo in El Salvador 🇸🇻

For anyone heading to El Salvador, I had no luck using Monzo at any ATMs (including Scotiabank, Banco Agricola etc). No problems for card transactions in supermarkets, just cash.

Im sorry to hear that but thanks for sharing this :raised_hands: had you enabled Magstripe withdrawals?

Yes, we had two cards both enabled. Contacted support through the app and it seems that no authorisation requests had even come through, having just tried three different ATMs. There didn’t seem to be a reason - not the end of the world as I used another card at one of the ATMs I tried, and Monzo has worked fine through six countries so far!

Just to update, I’ve been back from El Salvador and I was able to withdraw cash with no issues from “Banco de América Central” or abbreviation “BAC”. Not even needed to enable Magstripe withdrawals. Also travelled lots within the country and never had any issue paying by card even in remote places.

However other bank ATMs did not work. Luckily BAC ATMs are easily found.

I have a quick question cuz I want to use a BAC ATM if I have £50 should I enter that amount as the amount I want to withdraw?

El Salvador uses dollars, therefore convert £50 to dollars but always leave some room for exchanging rates. Currently for £50 I would withdraw $60 to be safe.

Thank you I’m going to try right now :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Ok, good luck. Remember to enable Magstripe withdrawals beforehand.
