No, i don’t think they have probably ever experienced damaged cheque issues or complaints it was just more a case of being curious about the cost/loss or risk factors around the current cheque posting system
They will have an account with Royal Mail because they use them for sending out new and replacement cards as well. So I imagine costs will be small when you’re posting in such large quantities so frequently.
So to summarise? Cheque imaging has been circling the drain waiting for cheques to become a thing of the past, or inadvertently encouraging anyone who has gone full Monzo to open another account or trust Royal Mail not to lose our free post (admittedly so far so good!).
Shame really. There might well be diminishing value in this as the years go by but it’s a sad time when Monzo is no longer a step ahead of the high-street and other challenger banks.
My grandmother wants to send me a cheque for Xmas. Usually id see her but there we are
I’ve suggested just sending it to Free post Monzo. Don’t see it as any more risky as sending it to my house
First test of Monzo’s cheque offering
I could do similar to a Cov bs account but this way I get notified. Rbs don’t offer a better solution for me other than me receiving it and paying it in
I’ve given her the account number, it’s just that right? Top left? I’ll get her to send a photo before it goes
Have I missed something where Monzo have openly declared that this isn’t happening? Should this thread be closed down?
It’s on hold indefinitely so you could say that it isn’t happening because they’ve cancelled their plans to build it.
Until they say otherwise of course.
I think they should issue official advice to open a starling account just for cheque processing purposes - job done
I’ve just told her about the sort code. Thanks
I doubt it would be a problem if she forgot it, as all Monzo accounts use the same sort code at the moment - so they would already know what it’s supposed to be.
By the way, just to add to your original post detailing why you decided to send to Monzo rather than RBS - you actually can post a cheque to RBS. Either post it to your local branch and they will forward it on in the internal mail, or check their website FAQs - you can send it to a central processing centre, like Monzo.
You wouldn’t get a notification, of course, but it might be handy if you were actually walking past your local RBS/NatWest branch anyway - you could just put it through the door. Worth knowing about, anyway.
Edit: Here you go, it’s not freepost either so not as good as Monzo.
Thanks for the heads up. I’d need to order a paying in book I think
Yes, although you can use paying-in slips from the back of your chequebook (if you have one).
Yeah I might just order one of those to kill two birds. Its free after all.
It’s rare that I get a Cheque, but when I do, I pay it into my First Direct account - as they now support this feature before Monzo does :-/
Could be wrong but don’t think monzo will be doing cheque imaging anytime soon.
OK. Not sure why you’re replying to me? I was just explaining how it is. You’ve just explained exactly why it’s not worth doing though.
I love that you got Monzo to close it for you! A brilliant bit of lateral thinking
Does Starling have a limit on the amount of the cheque? I tried to use my legacy Lloyds account and their app but they have a 1000GBP limit
Lloyds group banks have the highest limit of all banks
