Lightyear

Couldn’t find a topic relating to Lightyear, if there is one please delete this.

Lightyear are now offering a Cash ISA and S&S ISA. They still have a limited offering in terms of ETFs and Stocks, however they do seem to be adding more, for example they recently added £EQQQ.

(Sorry. Had to be done  )

Had an email this week to say you could now buy fractional shares of ETFs. Platform seems okay, s&s isa is free except FX (I only buy in GBP) and the cash ISA is 3.75% with no bonus rate which seems alright.

Anyone using Lightyear at all?

I’m currently with chip for my savings and investments, but my cash ISA bonus is due to expire soon. I have 0% platform fees for until January 2027 for my s&s isa. The only downside is I love the chip app, showing everything on one screen, but it has a limited range of funds.

There was a relatively small Lightyear discussion on the Investments thread, but it’s good to have its own thread! I signed up to Lightyear this week once they announced fractional ETFs within the ISA and I’m really liking the app.

It’s a shame it’s a limited range of ETFs (although stops me tinkering) and the lack of ‘pie’ functionality in the ISA makes it a bit clunky, but I believe this is in the pipeline for ISAs as the offer ‘Plans’ on their GIAs. I do really like the app aesthetic though. Very sleek. Hoping they keep developing it and they offer more GBP ETFs soon.

I took the plunge too! I just invest in VWRP so works for me. App looks simple and slick, which works for me but agree some may find it too basic.

I’m also happy to have a cash ISA that just tracks base rate so while I might not always get the top rate, I’m also getting a decent one without thinking about it.

I reached out to support and they confirmed that plans (pies) with auto investment for ISAs will be released in the next week!

Their FX fee isn’t that cheap, Trading 212 are better on that front. They charge 0.35% compared with 0.15%

They also charge 0.20 % annually on any money market funds.

Just opened an account. Really like the UI compared to the cluttered mess that is T212.

This is great news… I will hold you to this

I agree. It’s really sleek and I’m enjoying it far more than T212.

My only gripe having used it for a few days is that I wish we could reorder the home screen to move ‘Investments’ above ‘Cash’ and ‘Vaults’. But that’s purely me being picky!

Trading 212 just seems a nightmare to find what I’m looking for. Loaded Lightyear and got to see my ETFs right away by scrolling down.

How did you search for it?

Most brokers allow you to search using the short code, eg VWRP, Trading 212 does this.

Trading 212 group their ETFs and you can search by type

You can also search by provider eg Vanguard or Blackrock.

I meant finding my ETFs I’d purchased. Maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough or just don’t understand the app :grimacing: Lightyear had it there as soon as I opened it.

Edit; I did work it out, just had to change to stocks and swipe down.

Lightyear is far less cluttered.

It’s good to hear about other brokers and apps, I’ve not personally tried Lightyear but I’ve heard positive things.

I’ve not heard of T212 being called cluttered before but it certainly has quite a lot of things within the app.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before.

They use NatWest for their transfers into them don’t they? Wee NatWest symbol shows up on Revolut.

I’m not too sure. I added funds using debit card.

Plans are now showing live for me within the ISA

Lovely stuff!

What are folks investing in on Lightyear then, I’m kinda new to it all and want some ideas for long term investment or should I just dump money into vwrp :joy:
