Wonder what happens if you lose the card and don’t want to pay the fee to replace it but you still want monzo premium.
Would they ship you a plastic card as an alternative? Or cancel your subscription?

I would assume ship you a plastic one, as you don’t need to order a metal card at all with premium
Congratulations Monzo, must have taken a lot of work to build and to negotiate with the insurers. Premium isn’t for me currently but adding breakdown (plus the other stuff) to the joint account could be a real money maker for you and would start to rival Nationwide and others. I would probably go for it then.
I hope the polish can now come on some of the core features of Plus/Premium in due course.
Well done all
That’s good to know, thanks for checking.
I would have preferred a plastic card and breakdown cover instead, however a card cost to Monzo can be spread over a few years whereas breakdown cover would be an annual cost so I doubt they are equal.
I’ve never had that experience with Nationwide, either.
But! Monzo is using the same provider, so I don’t expect there to be much practical difference in how things work.
So premium users can’t order holographic plus card?
On comparison table holographic card is exclusive to plus.
I guess if you’re desperate for the Plus card, you could get Plus, then sign up for Premium and say you want to keep your current card? That might/should work.
Assurant is Vodafones insurance provider and that next day replacement as long as claim is accepted.
Yes.
Go as if to make a call and dial *#06#
It will return your IMEI
I now hope that because they have introduced Premium accounts that they won’t forget about the Plus users and will still continue to update our accounts with features and offers too. Would hate it if they now said all new features are being made for premium account users only…
All makes sense for me - I’m at the time in my mobile life cycle that I’ll very soon be upgrading to a new iPhone (making insurance essential again for me!), I was getting £5 value out of Plus and I’m still having to travel at the moment.
I wasn’t overly fussed about a meta card but I don’t really like the Plus one so even that’s a bonus. Albeit I can’t remember the last time it left my wallet in public anyway!
That was delivered to the customer in excessive and premium looking packaging, not a manufacturing cost. A plastic card absolutely does not cost £4.
I’d be surprised if Plus gets forgotten, as it’s a big part of Premium.
Seems like the ‘philosophy’ behind each is:
Monzo: Core banking features
Plus: Additional app features for power users
Premium: Additional ‘real world’ (as opposed to in-app) features
The raw materials might not, further up the supply chain, but to Monzo, it is a cost - they don’t manufacture them in house.
I thought you summed it up well the last time @TTJJ made the point that Monzo profit from cards - monzo have an agreement with a manufacturer that costs X. They’ve stated they don’t profit from this.
That was about SHIPPING costs for replacement cards abroad. Context is everything.
I don’t believe a new metal card costs a nice round £50 in 2020 (but I don’t care either, because Premium is not for me). In an article from three years ago, a card manufacturer said metal cards cost between $30 and $50.
Looks great. Are you able to get a high quality shot of the edges, or comment on how thick the plastic component of the card sandwich is?
Also, in the mock-ups, the edges look chamfered, a la iPhone 5S. Is that the case with the physical card too?
On all iPhone 11 and 12 you end up with two imei due to the dual SIM card option you have so which one is the one for the phone that will be confusing
Hey Anthony
The best way to access a lounge is actually by using the LoungeKey app. It generates a QR code for you, so you don’t need to use your Monzo Premium card at all.
If for some reason you did need to prove your legal name, you could show a bank statement instead, which you can view in the Monzo app.
