When a current account is up an running can we display our IBAN next to the national format account number…or have an option in the app to generate our IBAN?
Some banks show the IBAN among your account details, whereas Barclays have a page on their website to calculate it (looks like the sort of thing that could be written into an app) though not sure why they can’t just tell you it rather than have to calculate it!

As a non-technical account holder, what does an IBAN do or enable me to do?
It’s the international bank account number. Just used for international transfers
EDIT: seems I was slightly wrong
An IBAN is used for SEPA transfers which are transfers within European countries. Outside Europe a different more costly type of international transfer is done which requires your sort code account number and your bank’s SWIFT code
