I don’t recommend being someone’s guarantor period, it’s not worth it no matter who they are.

It’s also worth mentioning that in many cases of joint tenancies, any and all guarantors are jointly and severally liable for all tenants. This means if one tenant defaults, the letting agent can seek payment from any or all guarantors, regardless of who they thought they were guaranteeing.
