One thing I would quite like would be to able to filter by Price. Primarily as I have no interest in investing in high value stocks and would prefer to look at cheap stocks so max a fiver
I’d like to filter by all sorts of thing like dividend and market cap too, I think they have this planned.
You’ve convinced me: just sent over my verification documents. I’ll keep the basic account for now and see how things play out. That said, very curious what the big player’s profit margins are on their £10-12 commission.
Here you can see brief Freetrade’s analysis of its competitors. You may consider it biased, if course, but it is based on the figures from respective companies’ financial statements.
Big players have extensive overheads, cost of which is passed to all customers by charging significantly higher fees.
I saw that but they didn’t actually state the profit margin of individual trades: any freetrade links on their actual cost to execute instant trades? HL make most their money from platform fees, ie 0.45% on all funds held in the account, which of course leads to insane revenues for doing, essentially, nothing.
I doubt you can realistically estimate a transaction’s profit margin since there are multiple revenue streams after all and overheads are significantly higher than the cost of sale.
I would personally speculate that a transaction itself is a negligible fraction and all operating costs, especially in comparison to rent/salaries/development but I am by no means an expert in this field
Excluding capital and fixed costs: what is the actual, marginal cost of executing an instant trade? Every company will be slightly different but hey, a few folks from Freetrade appear to knock around here. Genuinely curious now.
No idea but it’s probably pennies, and probably the answer is not as straightforward as one price as there might be caps or sliding scales for large volume. Certainly it’s below £1.
I worked in XO stockbroking years ago and the charges will be different on different exchanges, will depend on individual negotiations and may be a stepped cost based on the number of trades made, but totalled up you’re looking at pennies nowerdays, it’s ripe for disruption!
New user of Freetrade and just wanted to ask if there are any timelines for being able to transfer existing ISAs.
I’ve had a quick search through the thread and haven’t been able to find anything recent.
Cheers,
Thanks @o99
What interests me more is a transfer out option, I don’t want an ISA stuck in Freetrade if I end up needing to move it
I’ve always assumed every ISA provider has to allow you to transfer out. Is that not the case?
I’ve certainly never been prevented from transferring out of an ISA in the past, although sometimes exit fees are involved.
You would think so but there’s no mention of it anywhere, its not on their site, or help section or mention of fees that I could find or the process involved.
Similar to their non ISA account which im not aware of a way to transfer the holding of that either if even possible.
They haven’t built the ability to transfer in yet, let alone transfer out, give them time.
They have said before that they won’t charge fees for that though
Just looked at Freetrade terms and conditions and they do support ISA transfer out, albeit only in cash
Upon receiving a valid instruction from another ISA manager we will transfer to another ISA manager within 30 days. In order to do this we will sell all the Securities held in your Freetrade ISA at market value, deduct any fees and costs payable by you from the proceeds and then transfer the remaining cash amount to your new ISA manager.
ISA Terms
This enables them to meet the requirements imposed by HMRC
Investors have the right to transfer their ISAs whenever they want and this right must be included in the manager’s ISA terms and conditions…
Subject to the ISA terms and conditions of both ISA managers, the old manager may transfer:
*the ISA investments, in which case the new manager must re-register the investments in accordance with his terms and conditions (refer to ISA terms and conditions)
*cash
*any combination of the above

Obviously would be nice when they get round to building the ability to transfer out intact stocks, but as long as they are providing the ability to transfer out cash they are meeting their obligations.
What will be the price per share? I would like to set some money aside when I get paid Thursday!
Last time it was circa 52p. Hopefully more this time
