I take that back their 5k ticker is running slowly at 200 down
Here’s the summary video, given the features that it highlights, I think it’s probably safe to say that their service is still primarily aimed at travelers, for now -
https://twitter.com/i/videos/tweet/844916717461667841
The complete set of features are listed on this page (you get a choice of 3 cards too
)
Would appear monthly ATM withdrawals limited to £400 if I read that correctly. Inadequate if you are travelling anywhere Asia or SE Asia where small shops/homestays often dont take cards or have relatively high limits for minimum spend.
It looks like you pay a 2% fee on all withdrawals over £400, per calendar month, if you’re a premium user or the same fee for withdrawals over £200, if you’re not.
Coconut (formerly Monizo until Mondo changed their name to something almost identical) are actually already up and running
From Monizo to Coconut
oooooh didn’t know that. Thanks!
Coconut is for freelancers though right ?
Coconut is for individual freelancers, contractors, self-employed, etc whereas Tide is for SMEs like small companies with a few staff
UK SMSing is very expensive, even in massive bulk
Whilst everyone seems to be discussing other ‘banks’ or providers of similar products, and discussing at length their merits/downsides, I’m not sure there has been anything concrete from Monzo either about their plans!??
Surely with the full fat current account due imminently, now should be the time we get to find out about the offering from Monzo?? Surely it will build more interest (hopefully!)
I’m sure it’ll be good, but I think the time has come to let us know a bit more. There has been lots of maybe’s but nothing firm.
Other providers are now coming on stream, so I’d like to know a bit more about this offering. Any news that Monzo HQ can let us know about?
While I completely agree further detail and information is required about the format of the current account. I don’t believe It is beneficial For Monzo to comment too early on their plans until its concrete… I don’t think anyone wants to make promises they cant keep!! I think we wont hear much till after the end of the crowd funding round.
There is some information about the sorts of things Monzo would like to do in the future on their Extraordinary Ideas Board .
I totally agree with you on this
I agree to an extent, but people have been investing but have no real idea in what?! The assumption is that it’s going to be great and better than accounts/products on offer already from the huge amount of suppliers, both new and legacy. I’m sure it will, but if the hype outweighs the substance things could start to turn a little sour. You know the press, build something up, then when it doesn’t offer that ‘X Factor’, people’s interest will soon die off.
At some point you have to tempt people in (as Monzo have) but promises of it being great have to be backed up with a little bit of substance. Even if you drip feed something concrete.
I found something online the other night, and I was amazed at the amount of fintech companies, and what they offer. Some offer financial products including ‘not quite current accounts’ but offer direct debits and the like, some with current accounts. Something for everyone I would say.
I would think that it’s an ideal time to get people on board with a confirmed idea of what Monzo will be offering, before they enjoy the similar benefits elsewhere (unless Monzo are intending to offer the best of all these accounts! Cashback, no foreign loading on spending and ATM withdrawals, free overdraft up to £50 etc etc).
It looks like there’s been quite a lot of details that’ve been confirmed already but they’re spread between posts so they’re not that easy to find..I’ve just created this topic to round up everything we know so far & you might be surprised how much we already know -
There is a bit of info out and about, just scattered. That wiki brings it nicely together, thanks.
Lots going on already, and some which I fully accept can’t happen until the full account goes live.
At least it will give a decent comparison between the other providers and truly weigh up if it’s worth the jump.
There’s plenty of food for thought, I’m sure people will be busy with their calculators to work out what’s best!
Starling are now members of the Current Account Switching Service -
Well, that’s awesome, but where are theyyyy?

Ive been waiting since July last year to get more information out of them… and all you get from the twitter team or the chat on the site, is that they are doing them in waves…
Revolut is getting a bit desperate:

1500 spaces left, despite being announced 6 or 7 days ago.
