Would look better with the MC logo on the front though as pictured in the app.
Having used Chase for several days now I thought I would post a quick assesment, covering what works well, what problems I have encountered and what I would like to see in the future.
Note 1: I am using it on an android phone
Note 2: What is important to me in regards to banking features may not be important you, and vice versa
Cards
First of all card usage has been excellent. I have used both the virtual card with Google pay via Curve, to make online purchases directly, behind paypal, and behind Tesco Pay. Has all worked flawlessly, and how ever I have used it has correctly credited my cashback.
No problems using the physical card either.
I have pointed my card at secondary account, and should be noted that this directs both the virtual card and physical card to the selected account. That also has worked as intended.
I canāt load it onto Google pay directly which is an issue for me as an android user, but Curve has proved a work around for that
I canāt load it onto Apple Pay on my iPad, which is another annoyance. I have Curve on apple pay but have not had an opportunity to test it.
Payments
Not quite so happy here. I really like the interface, and being able to have multiple accounts saved to each person, however I am used to transfers between my different banks to be instant. Chase seems to take 30 seconds or so either transferring in or out. Not a huge issue, but something Chase definitely need to improve.
Scheduled payments, and Standing orders all work fine, as do transfers between my Chase accounts.
A couple of times when making payments the app has hung, I had to restart the app and try again, but this has not happened since the last app update so may be fixed.
Features I would like to see
- Direct Debits is the big one. Not having this limits the usefulness considerably. Absolute must have.
- Being able to save references on payments, not having this is quite annoying, and it just should be there, it canāt be that difficult to implement
- I would like to have a virtual card for each account, or if not every account say 3 instead of 1 that I can assign to specific accounts. The virtual cards would be tied to specific accounts, and the physical card can be pointed to different accounts in the same way it currently does.
- I would really like an option to say if a payment is attempted on a secondary account and fails due to lack of funds, it will take the payment from the main account, assuming funds are there
Other products I would like to see
BNPL - this could also encourage continued use of the debit card when cash back ends. Something like up to £3k in purchased can be split into 3 interest free monthly payments
Credit card with rewards. Ideally something matching my Amex so 0.5% cahsback
Nutmeg integration
Overdraft and loans
I agree with your thoughts here.
The Apple Pay annoyances are hopefully temporary and should be quickly fixed.
Direct Debits and references for payments are both essential, so again that should be a top priority for them.
I would also like the added flexibility of virtual card details for different accounts and something similar to Curveās Anti-embarrassment mode where payment could fall-back to the main account.
Iāve also noticed the occasional delay in the app with notifications and payments, and agree itās something that needs to be sorted out.
I would like Dark Mode too, as the app is very light and white which is a bit of a shock when youāve opened it with Dark Mode switched on!
This is my problem with Chase, I planned to use it as a spending account whilst the cashback was active but I wanted to keep my money in Monzo until needed. Unfortunately the delay between sending to the account and the account displaying it as received is just too long for me to use it the way i want to. Now Chase will sit dormant just to keep an eye on any new features they might release
Yes, thatās annoying, especially when the account pays no interest and canāt be used for Direct Debits - so you donāt want to leave huge sums in there at a time.
Are people really having delays that long? I have never had a delay more than a couple of minutes, usually around 30 seconds. If being used as a spending card, why are you waiting until a time critical moment (at the checkout?) to make the transfer?
No, the delays arenāt that long, in my experience.
But they are not instant, which is noticeable when you are used to instant.
Iāve managed to add the card to Apple Pay on iPad in these 3 simple steps:
- Download the Chase UK app to the iPad
- Log in on iPad
- Add the card to Apple Pay via the app on the iPad
p.s. You can log in afterwards on your phone (because youāll get logged out when you sign in on the iPad) and delete the app from iPad Hope this helps
Yep, thatās what I did
Fitbit pay via Curve works fine as well
Iāll take a code if anyoneās giving them away
Maybe @TTJJ can help you out
You want Chase to simply copy Monzo?
Itās a bit concerning that a supposedly new bank is having delays of even 30 seconds. Is their technology stack up to the challenge? Even transfers to and from Nationwide are instant, and I know they arenāt running on a modern tech stack. Makes me wonder whether Chase will be able to iterate quickly if they canāt even get the basics down for launch.
Top tip. After going back to the phone app though it wouldnāt let me log in, so I had to clear the app cache and data, and then I was able to log back in.
Well Monzo didnāt actually come up with this, in fact they are kind of late to the party, with a whole host of companies offering BNPL, and Ā£3k paid over 3 months interest is fairly typical though there are a number of variations on this.
That being said yes if the competition comes up with something good, of course copy it, and try to copy it better, (assuming you are not breaking any patents).
Behave. Chase Flex absolutely not.
Whatās more concerning is that many consumers seem incapable of waiting 30s - 1m for their funds to move!
Thatās how high the bar of expectation is nowadays.
Donāt know how people would have coped in days before tāinternet!
Cheques.
Bit more than 30 seconds to move money with those
