Sent an in-app message to them asking for an update late last night and have a reply this morning saying that the payment is definitely showing as approved at their end but appears to be “stuck”. They have escalated it to another team to look at.

A bug in their platform, I expect…

I think it may just need more checks.
I used to work at a high street and I recall my stepdad moving money and Barclays saying some BS like the mouse won’t let me click the transfer button. Please!

It shouldn’t take this long especially for £20k but deffo fraud plays a part in it. They want to make sure you’re 100% comfortable with sending the money and to whom - even to yourself.

You can thank scam artists for that. But also personally chase for me is my spending account and savings.

Nationwide remains my legacy. However I do trust that chase will be able to carry out all my needs just as well.

Two separate agents have told me that the payment has been approved and needs no further checks.

I’m glad that you are happy with Chase but, personally, I’ll be withdrawing the rest of my savings now. No way would I use Chase as a current account, either, not at the moment.

I know from first hand a few family members mentioning to me that their payments were on hold and required further checks. It was embarrassing for them as they had to pay builders / electricians etc. They’re not at all pleased with Chase as it’s never happened to them with Monzo or Starling.

Every banking system will have IT measures in place like this to stop basic operator errors, which this undoubtedly was, or a bug. The cashier probably hadn’t entered the proper data.

Payment finally released, thankfully. Going to move the rest to Marcus for the time being - 1.3% interest rate but at least their withdrawal process is predictable.

It’s £1,000 minimum deposit and you can’t withdraw less than £500. I’m not sure this is truly easy access.

That’s a little worrying! Basically now I don’t want to leave money there that I might need easy access to. I am tempted to move it out to a 1% Monzo pot.

Virgin was 1.55% I think, though it’s a risk anywhere tbh after their meltdown the other week :joy:

I’ve moved mine to Atom. It’s 1.25% at the moment but they’ve been increasing it regularly.

Chase are going to be sponsoring the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham - in about 6 weeks time. So, expect an explosion of advertising around that.

It’ll be interesting to see if they can get everything sorted by then or if that’s going to be slow motion car crash that everyone can see coming up but no-one can stop…

Appears you got it right at the lower end of the 3 - 5 weeks guidance then :man_shrugging:

For me it’s one of those over-promise and under-deliver situations.

They were literally running TV ads bragging about how great they are and how quick and easy it is to sign up. Yet when it came down to it I was plonked into a waiting room and only a few days later told it would be 3-5 weeks.

The expectation was setup would take minutes not weeks.

If I knew at the start, I probably still would have signed up, but I would have known where I stood and for instance I wouldn’t have been left thinking I’d be able to use it for the trips I had last week.

Playing Devil’s advocate though on this, what’s happened over the last few weeks has been an exception rather than the rule with Chase. When I setup my Chase account, which was pretty early on when they launched, if I remember rightly, it was a 5 min setup and I think I even had my Chase card added to Apple Pay.

However, that was also during the ‘soft launch’ - when I think you had to join a waiting list in the first place to get invited to apply?

They were obviously caught very unprepared for how popular they £20 refer a friend offer would be which is almost definitely why they stopped that after just a week or so

What is concerning though is that they were also caught a bit unprepared when they launched their savings account and Martin Lewis recommended it.

Maybe in the US they don’t have quite such a big rush of people who are willing to setup new bank accounts to get a bit of extra cash so they’re not used to it and don’t have the scale-ability to cope with a rush like that?

I’ve switched all my spending back to Monzo now - I just had one too many hiccups with Chase that it stopped being worth the effort to transfer money when I wanted to buy something for the 1% cashback

And now I’ve bought a car, I have no savings to stash away either :joy:

Mucked up yesterday.

5% cashback offer at Subway through Curve. 2 days left.

Checked it was connected to my Chase card.

Ordered my Subway.

Then paid via Google Pay, that was still defaulted to my Chase card :man_facepalming:

Had physical Curve card in pocket too :man_shrugging:

Not sure how I’ll get through this month now, without that extra 33p cashback I missed out on
