Chase UK Chat (Part 1)

I think Starling use their 04 sort code for their SaaS product.

Just got this email… no Ā£50 Amazon voucher for me as an early adopter but signs are there that the seeds of integration are being sowed, promising:

Yes, but the Chase UK sort code came from a new range, rather than one formerly used by JP Morgan.

The other JP Morgan sort codes are allocated to JP Morgan. The Chase UK ones are allocated to JP Morgan Europe Ltd, which is a new umbrella company set up to run Chase UK. The sort codes didn’t seem to be in use before being allocated, although they are in the ā€œhistorical rangeā€ (the 60s) used by NatWest, so could perhaps be more likely to be recognised.

They could have used a totally brand-new range if they wanted. 04 sort codes are allowed to connect to any payment scheme, it seems, as Starling 04-00-40 is connected to all of them.

+1 for this. I gave up putting my spending through chase several months ago.

I don’t suppose there’s any news on when Chase will be adding any more features?
I haven’t actually used mine since the end of October, as at the moment, there doesn’t seem to be much point.

My Amex is the BA one, so have been on a mission to collect Avios lol
I think tbh, as others have said, it is the hassle of having to remember to fund the account just so you can use it.
On the upside, using my Amex on Amazon over Christmas boosted the Avios rather nicely

I won’t be closing the account, as I am hoping it can become an account I can use more and more.
It’s just the lack of features at the moment that prevents me from slimming down some of my other accounts in favour of chase.

Yeah, I am really. Sure, I have >1 account, but virtually everything is done through my main account. I find that having everything in one place makes life simpler. I’ve gone through phases (quite long phases, actually) of putting all my spending on cash back credit cards, and it’s easy enough, but I suspect it makes me slightly less careful with my spending. I went through a phase of using chase for spending, but got frustrated with having to preload the account with spending money, and now I’m back using monzo for everything.

Could I use Chase instead? Probably. I would miss Monzo’s ā€œleft to spendā€ graphic and I don’t find the Chase app quite as easy as Monzo’s (I dislike how I need to click into the transaction screen to view more than 4 transactions), but these aren’t deal breakers.

Would I use Chase instead? Maybe, but I’m always tempted by Starling (cheques, cash at post office).

Im also a 1 bank account person and 1 credit card that i rarely use , i got into trouble a while back with finances and have learned to do without cards where i can , I like the features that monzo have and help a lot with budgeting etc

There’s also 5% AER on round ups too which is snowballing nicely for me. Just wish they’d let us manually deposit into it say a limited lump sum of Ā£1000 each so that it feels more of a bang for the buck.

I’ve said this before, but Chase’s launch has been weird. It smacks of ā€˜someone promised we’d be live by x date so let’s just throw something out’.

Their approach isn’t agile and iterative. They’re not trying to build community. It’s feature incomplete and they’re buying customers to use it as a payment card (which will never alone get them profitable).

Quite why they didn’t wait until they’re feature complete, I have no idea. Baffled.

On another note, I don’t know if today it’s because they’re not processing as much or something, but I’ve noticed that notifications are much quicker.

So, transferred money from Monzo to Chase - and Chase informed me it had arrived within about 30 seconds. Spent something in the shop and notified as I walked out of the door.

Previously - it’s been 5 mins or so for being notified of a transfer in, and there’s been times when I’ve got notified I’ve spent money when I’ve got back home.

Hopefully this isn’t just a temporary thing and they’re now feeding whatever hamster was powering that some new super-diet to get it’s legs running on the wheel faster…

You might have seen that JPMorgan Chase acquired Nutmeg last year, one of the leading UK digital wealth management platforms. We’re working closely with our colleagues and we’ll reveal all later this year.

It was partially correct :joy:

Chase roadmap looks good. No mention of credit cards. I’m fascinated by the wording ā€œsee how you use themā€. Maybe they have it set up so you can have direct debits from each accounts. Who knows

Direct debits by March. Says it on the website.

That should be possible given they all have their own account numbers with a sort code already.

In the email they’ve also sent out to Chase customers they’ve said

In spring we’ll also be introducing a new savings option, to help you make more of your money.
