I just asked them on chat, got a reply within about 20 seconds which is crazy. At the moment they are working on Google Pay but no word on Samsung Pay or Curve support.
I would suspect youād have more luck contacting Curve to ask them why itās not working? Are there any other āstandardā bank debit cards that donāt work in Curve?
Interesting, they do have open banking API so I wonder if thatās also due, possibly with beta testers behind the scenes? Unless it does other stuff than what I assumed ie access to other banks and visibility etc.
Also, the incident history goes back to July so I guess itās been live for a while before inviting the Joe Public in.
Good point, iāve send Curve a message.
Iāve not kept up with this thread since yesterday, but I added my Chase card to Curve straight away and it worked for me?
Something may have gone wrong with your Curve account.
So you added the card details from your chase app into the curve app and it worked? Mine said not supported.
EDIT: Huh, it worked, must have messed up a number last time lol.
Yes, exactly that!
Glad you got it sorted.
Now we need to pester Curve to do a proper card image!
I wonder if using my Curve card will effect the cashback in the Case appā¦
Also thought it was funny how the Ā£0.73 charge was rejected because my Chase account has Ā£0 but it still worked when verifying the card in the Curve app.
Are you sure this isnāt their MCI Open Banking?
That is basically not real Open Banking at all.
To be fair, the last couple of times Iāve used Monzo in-app support have been around 10-15 minutes wait time.
Cashback should work as it is based on MCC.
Curveās MCC pass-through means you will get cashback on the right things, but still not get it on excluded things - so like using your card directly.
Iāve not tested it yet, though, so we canāt be totally certain - thatās all theory.
Yes, and thereās probably an interesting debate to be had about what their strategy likely is.
At the moment, they are obviously going all-out to acquire customers, so donāt mind a high cost per customer. But that will have to come down at some point, and how they do that will be interesting. They are probably banking on scale giving them certain efficiencies. They are also likely to market to the sort of āprofessionalsā that theyāve already mentioned, who frankly tend to have (and spend) more money so they are more profitable customers. I still donāt think that will be enough to be comfortably in profit, though, so I think a cross-subsidy will come into play.
With Starling, thatās basically business banking and banking as a service.
With Chase, that may be overdrafts, credit cards and Nutmeg?
The other challenge is how to keep customers as they, inevitably, seek to reduce costs - in the longer term. Weāve already seen the cashback small print as being only for 1 year. But they will need to replace it with something similar, or continue it indefinitely, as itās really their only true USP aside from their approach to multiple accounts (and that is likely not compelling enough on its own to persuade people to stay with them).
This is why they do have their own account number, if you ask me.
Unless you give each account/pot full account details, you can never pay into it directly.
Also, I think itās partly to make the whole concept more accessible to people who often still think in terms of account numbers and sort codes.
You can tell them that their ābills accountā is a true second account linked up to their numberless card. The Monzo Pot concept is more complicated, although arguably more flexible as a result.
Other than arguably ālegacyā features (I hate that term but itās well used here so Iām using it) like:
- Post Office support
- Cheque Imaging
- Cheque Posting
Or the specialist features like:
- Connected Card
- Euro account
- Starling Kite
Of course, Starling are still in danger there because Chase could fairly easily add all of these features in quite short order.
Tried and tested you can pay into them externally and you get a notification as you do the main account.
As for direct debits; I asked the question on Twitter but nobody responded yet, Iāll ask live chat.
Yes @ndrw is right.
I asked their support about this last night.
Apparently, at the moment, you can only provision Apple Pay via the Chase app.
So you can add the card to your iPhone and Apple Watch, but itās impossible to add it to iPads or Macs at the current time.
Other verification methods are apparently coming ālaterā.
It does work with Curve, so Iād recommend using the card via Curve for Google Pay users.
The cashback element is really good, I can see myself using the card for spending. Iām in no rush to jump onboard the chase ship but itāll be good to see future updates & what they bring to the table. Hopefully if they launch a credit card in the future, thereāll also be cashback ?
I also transferred a few quid & for some reason the notifications had taken a while to hit my phone & was wondering if anyone else was having this issue?
It seems to take a few minutes for me to get notifications, not as instant as Monzo.
Same for me, there is definitely a delay.
