Perhaps they see the UK market being too saturated?
They already have quite a good app in the uk and a plan in progress to massively cut branches, but closing all branches at once would be too disruptive whereas the US is a new market so they can go in digital only.
Impatient for Monzo to launch in the US now - could be a game changer in terms of scale - they have done really well to grab 1 million in the UK already, and the established banks clearly see the threat and are responding.
The US is not a new market for Barclays.
They have retail branches there? Sorry wasn’t aware of that. I thought they just did barclaycard in the states.
Ah, no, I thought you just meant they were new to the US market. They have Barclaycard and some commercial banking, no retail.
