Barclays Chat

So I initially ask to upgrade my hsbc account to premier back in August, branch said it needs to be done on the phone, so I called up they gave me an appointment in September, which I assumed was for upgrade instead a pre-assessment appointment, I then got another appointment in Oct where an upgrade took place, I was then sent a form to upgrade the credit card to premier, I sent it back, called mid november back office still working on it, called mid december, same response, as of today 1st of feb 2023 and I am now dealing with the complaints team who themselves after sending me another form which at first attempt incorrect one then emailed me the correct one yet to upgrade my credit card. The worst experience ever.

Actually it was quite quick to open in the end, I applied yesterday and it was open and ready to use today.

This surprised me given how typically slow they are normally.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah same happened with my Barclaycard switch, it vanished for a bit and had a new number (which I then forgot to update in my payees list, remember to do that if you have the card added anywhere!).

Also nice wallet loadout.

Yeah, I forgot to do it and paid the card off and got worried that it hadn’t gone through. It will still accept payments you make as the old number isn’t purged from the system forever, it still knows it’s the same account, it just takes a couple of days instead of showing up more or less instantly as it does usually with Barclaycard as it has to do some other reconciliation process.

How did you apply for it? Online? I did think it was a little strange that the attitude in-branch and experience didn’t live up to the name of the product, so felt it wasn’t worth all the hassle at the time, especially with all the remote opening which I was advised of and somewhat put off by. The travel insurance would’ve come in handy though, but I have placed my money elsewhere now.

In both instances online. For the Barclays one that was via app and for HSBC online. Even though I had a legacy savings account and an FD account it still let me.

Back to Barclays I do have to say the app is quite streamlined

Which do you prefer Barclays or HSBC app wise?

I found Barclays app fairly good to be fair but have not touched HSBC in a long time

Is Barclays Premier worth it?

Exactly this.

For me there are not a lot of huge benefits compared to a typical card. You get a “preferential rate” of a whopping 2.5% on savings, a black card and other offers/a premier phone line.

Hard this one. I like both but for different reasons. In terms of app I think the Barclay’s just about edges it, screenshots below if this helps people decide in the future. But in terms of online I prefer HSBC and the phone line service is really comparable.

To be specific to the app, my criteria was:

Can I do the same things in each app as easily

Barclays wins this because it has better inbuilt spending analytics, a slightly better UI overall and you can see card details in app. The HSBC one has some great options and for my needs will do what it needs to so we’re all good there.

Does it connect into other tools with ease

Both easily connected into Lumio, though HSBC was more tricky to setup

Is it stable and reliable

So far so good, the HSBC app seems faster

How do the phone lines compare

Both really great so far

Screenshots for reference

Prefer the look and design of the Apple Wallet to my useless Google Wallet. Cards look a lot easier to select.

I don’t know why Google haven’t made an easy way to switch between cards (or if they have, why it isn’t widely advertised). Samsung Wallet makes it a lot easier to see all your cards and switch between them.

I can switch cards on my lock screen? Seems easy enough.

How? What phone do you have?

It’s a button on the bottom right, enabled it in settings. Bottom left is Google Home controls as well.

I have a Pixel.

I have a Samsung Galaxy which seems to have few settings missing for Google Wallet in general (unsurprising though).

Never seen this option. Don’t know if it just isn’t on my phone or if I’m just blind and can’t see it.

Even when you open the app, it seems you have to swipe through every single card to get to the one you want. Samsung Wallet has a swipe down to view all cards and you just pick the one you want from there.

The current Google Wallet design is a PITA.

I have multiple debit and credit cards in it. I try to order it in way of most used, but doesn’t seem to make life easier much :man_shrugging::rofl:

I don’t see why Google doesn’t do what Samsung has done. It just seems common sense to have a quick way to see all of your cards.
