Amex (American Express) Discussion

Given that cards aren’t valid that long, if you’ve somehow managed to obtain the card number, it wouldn’t be too difficult to brute force the date.

Amex will no longer work in Russia and Belarus

Interesting how Tesco Bank credit card will write off my statement balance, if less than a quid, whereas American Express will take a DD for my 2p balance :rofl:

I had been spending cashback that had left my account in credit due to my everyday spend currently through Chase.

I guess every little helps?

Just got my first ever Amex, had a natwest credit card for years now.

10k starting balance on the Gold card. Quite pleased with that as an opening balance, will get it raised after 6 months.

Had my first “negative” experience with Amex customer support this weekend.

The actual employee was great, and there was no time waiting to speak to him, but the lack of information was a little surprising.

I had my mobile stolen on Friday evening/Saturday morning from my pocket, but I had just used Apple Pay so the police asked for a time stamp for them to check CCTV.

The app doesn’t show a time. Fair I suppose since when it clears isn’t the time it’s processed so I called up to ask the time of the transaction.

Turns out that they are all listed in MST. Even UK transactions. And the support weren’t sure if that had accounted for daylight savings.

So the transaction was at 17:14 MST which Googling would put it at 00:14 but I got a bus home at 01:41 and I basically ordered food, collected, walked out and realised my phone was gone. Looked around for about 10 mins and left so I suspect it was actually 01:14.

It surprised me I can’t get an exact time I used my card in the UK with the right time.

In Apple Pay?

Wallet, tap the card, tap the transaction.

Unless when setting up a new phone it doesnt allow, or via web if that’s even a thing.

Phone stolen so I’m assuming that means his history is gone with it

Ah, that does make sense.

I’m just… erm… scoping the (not so) competition :eyes:

In all realness, I’m using it more as it’ll be a familiar platform for me and the other half when he finally opens his account for our joint account.

Can’t have a JA with Monzo, so onto the next best (:eyes:) that he will most likely like.

Yep doesn’t transfer over when you don’t have your phone. No phone = no data.

Bet you’d have appreciated MORE confusion though, eh?:rofl:

If I could have been confused enough to fly to NY or something I wouldn’t have complained :grimacing::joy:

  1. The membership rewards are probably the most versatile of any points you can collect.

  2. This should help:
Membership Rewards® Programme | Amex UK

  3. Remember after the first year, there is a fee for this card, although for some, the value of the points can outweigh the annual fee.

Hope this helps in some small way.

Those of you who have gone through a FR with Amex - what did they ask for? Got a lovely call at 10am this morning saying my 3 week old Gold card was under review, not ideal but what can you do.

Wondering if burning through the welcome bonus quickly did it (which was a pre-planned purchase of a new MacBook, made sense to defer a couple of weeks to put towards the bonus).

I didn’t know they did random financial reviews - I’ve never had one before where they called me.

What kind of things were they asking about?

I don’t want to be alarmist, but if they called you, I’d give Amex a quick ring back just to make sure that it actually was them.
