What do you mean?
how many people have monzo as their main account?
And there is the £2.000,000 question. Not that it will matter to those obsessed with reaching this 2 million mark, but just how many of those 2 million + are actually fully functioning everyday accounts that are making money for Monzo? probably not as many as people think. But hey, who cares anyway? The investors?
I think anyone would agree, the level of dormancy across all banks is there to some degree. I have 3 separate bank accounts with 3 different banks, two of which I use as fully active functioning accounts and one which is completely dormant, and that is a High Street account.
Great news
Yes, and I think this is the key piece of missing information. We’ve had figures from Monzo on the proportion of active accounts at various times, but I don’t know what the average level is for the banking industry. It would be very interesting to know both the average across the industry, and what Monzo’s at.
yes I agree its a pointless , although a pleasing figure / milestone, it really is like all other banks figures, meaningless , Just as Starling now trumpet their User numbers having reached a trumpet able amount - its just a marketing figure to promote how many people “use” us.
I for instance have had a Lloyds bank account for 25 years, before Monzo it was my daily usage card , therefore my “main bank” I was / am one of their CA statistics I still have the chequebook and account , but I use it very very rarely . I have a Starling account so am one of their statistics , Ive used it around 5 times since opening a couple of years ago . I am presumably one of their CA statistics.
I use Monzo for all of my daily transactions, but don’t have a salary paid in to Monzo , Im retired , but I would say its my main current account, should I be counted because I dont comply with the considered way of "do you have your salary paid in " and unless you do its not really your main account statements
Capitalism = Marketing.
And I’m done.
Starling recently said they had 600k users
I am one of their users - I have £6.36 with them for the past few months and dont get my salary paid in to them
I am one of Monzo users with a few thousand pounds in the account but dont get a salary paid in
Account numbers eh
You couldn’t be more right, the only real metric that matters is active accounts, or better still, accounts where the account holder has their salary paid into it.
Recent news articles suggest that many who have app banking accounts keep very little money in then and do not have their salaries paid into them.

That article actually says that over half of people with a digital bank account get their salary paid into a digital bank, which seems pretty good.
The article uses Monzo’s 2018 annual report as a baseline which isn’t the best idea as that was just after the current accounts had launched and the transition from the prepaid accounts was underway. It was to the year ending 28th February 2018. The article states that 4/5ths don’t add their salary. Last time Monzo’s CEO @anon91821566 mentioned it last December, it was 30%.
The articles sources are not accurate so I am dubious about the whole thing. Monzo’s accounts are due to be published soon so it will be good to see what is mentioned in them.
Oh I didnt hear about this, do you know when?
I meant the 2019 annual report. I don’t have exact dates but the 2018 Annual Report was to the year ending 28th February 2018. The report itself was published on the 2nd July 2018. Therefore I expect the 2019 report to be around the same time this year.
I think they have around 9 months to publish full accounts (unless the get themselves exempt but I don’t think they will) - so by November they’ll be out - although likely to come out same time as last year.
I am just basing it on the fact that the 2017 annual report came out on the 4th July 2017 and the 2018 annual report came out on the 2nd July 2018. I expect Monzo to be consistent but you are correct, of course, they could delay it to the wire.
Oh 100% I agree they’ll probably want it out of their hair and in the public domain - just fleshing out that they have till November!
happy that I am part of this Monzo Community.
Bravo, Monzo!!!
hope that this number keeps growing!!
