1000000 people just opened your accounts. How many ACTIVE customers you have?
Hardly misleading, they currently have 1,000,000 accounts open.
Did I misread and they report 1,000,000 monthly active users?
FYI if you’re genuinely interested in active users, this article from April had a breakdown of daily/weekly/monthly.
The headline of which is:
If the proportion is the same today, that’ll mean 31% are daily active, 57% are weekly active, and 80% are monthly active.
Although I imagine that proportion has increased now there’s many more reasons to switch to monzo, like Apple Pay, CASS, joint accounts, split the bill etc.
Wow this is very aggressive
You’ll find that this is the actual amount of people who have activated and currently use their accounts. Going by the tone of your comment it will probably upset you to learn that they have considerably more if you include joint accounts too.
Sorry! But I’m not aggressive
I just asked about active customers
My friend started to use Monzo as a main account and my wife as well. They are very happy! Especially because they can check their salary day before !!
A bit misleading anyway… it states 1000000 people are now using Monzo! So if they use Monzo they are active users?
In the finance what does MAU actually mean as opposed to a social network, does receiving an incoming payment or using your card count you as monthly active, or simply opening the app?
That’s good ![]()
For future reference. If you use caps and loads of exclamation marks in a community forum it will be perceived as you shouting and being upset.
Edit: I see that you’ve now edited your original post. You didn’t need to do this after you clarified your tone above but it was good of you to do so ![]()
New users who signed up after the prepaid closed are going full monzo at lot quicker too which is
Considering that’s the majority of the user base now.
Not sure if there’s a standard. It could be just opening the app… but IMO it would be someone who makes a transaction out or into their account.
Yeah, these figures are suspicious to be honest. I wonder how active these 1mil accounts are.
Also, 16 contacts on average? wow. I have 3: 1 person I haven’t spoken to in about 5 years and surprised I still have their number attached, 1 is experimenting with Monzo (not main account) and 1 actually has their main account with Monzo. (plus 1 who couldn’t stay with Monzo after the change to current accounts who I’m guessing isn’t included in the 1mil
)
I have 40 people on my Monzo contacts, and for clarity that doesn’t include any colleagues. So I guess it balances out
It would be interesting to know how many active accounts there are and the proportion of customers depositing salary/student loan/benefits to see the growth over time. I suspect we’ll get a lot more detail when the crowdfunding prospectus comes out in the next few months.
I am sure when other Banks and FinTechs give us these sort of starts they include all the accounts which are open with them regardless of being used or not. There will many more dormant accounts with legacy banks than Monzo.
1,000,000 is a headline figure and IMO Monzo are not trying to deceive at all.
I’m sure it’s a good comparison figure because, as you said, all the other banks probably do the same thing. I keep thinking Monzo might try to do things differently, but never mind eh?
But if those were accounts that had a transaction within the past month or something like that, that would be a more useful figure than “we’ve had a metric boatload of signups for accounts that aren’t in use”. Of course, it’s all just marketing bumf at the end of the day. Not really worth anything in either context.
Sidenote: I propose that “metric boatload” be used for all account number counting.
I have 20 contacts and I know more who have it who I don’t have in my phone. 16 isn’t high to be honest.
I don’t think Monzo is the kind of bank people open an account with and just leave. Most will have a reason, even if it’s just for spending on holiday.
Well done Monzo. To get 1.5% or so of the entire population without any advertising is immense.
Congratulations, what an achievement

Member number 74,819 here, congratulations! A huge achievement.
Congrats all! I’ve been talking about Monzo on my social media for a couple of weeks now! Hopefully my friends will all join! I convinced my other half to get it, but only have 2 other contacts on Monzo - such a small number haha!
I only have 7 Monzo contacts
I think being user 2,200 I should have a few more!
