ACH your describing taking two days is like our old version of BACs which took to days which we now have replaced with faster payment. I assume when using PayPal over there if you wanted to send a payment it takes two days to come out if your account if you withdraw.
PayPal for me is usually instantaneous or within a few minutes. Even to people Iโve never sent to before.
I actually sent some money a couple of weeks ago to someone in Poland from the USA and she received it within a few minutes as well. That was with switching it to Polish currency in the app.
PayPal is always faster to transfer funds. But it charges a fee when you use either debit or credit card
For certain transactions in the US, Paypal will allow funding via card rails (fast), for a fee. But to pull funds into the Paypal ecosystem from a US checking account without a fee, yes, it takes a few business days (ACH).
True. To circumvent this time delay, when I need to replenish my account, I transfer funds to my friend who returns it immediately.
I am glad to share that I was lucky enough to get hold of the beautiful Monzo card in NYC event. It was a sweet surprise how quick it was to sign up and the card was handed over to me instantly. The app looks really cool and modern. Love to see the full fledged version of Monzo in USA.
Now I have started using Monzo account for my daily expenses. Also I used Monzo to pay my bill. My bill provider says that he has received my payment that was set up through Monzo bank account. But those expenses are not yet updated in Monzo app. It has been 2 days since i got confirmation from my service providers. Anyone is facing such issues???
This is probably ACH. Give it one more day to clear. I am not sure if Monzo shows pending ACH payments or not. Have not used it for anything other than merchant payments.
Hi,
I waited for 3 days. Still nothing has changed. I took it up with Monzo CS. Hope it can be resolved soon.
I am interested in what they say. If you remember to update this thread I would appreciate it!
It would be good to have the option of copying Debit Card number from the app.
Right now, the Account tab just shows the card with the last 4 numbers. It doesnโt allow me to view or copy the number.
Also, it will be nice to have the option of adding the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay from the app.
This can be done in the UK TestFlight version 3.6.0 in the PIN and card number option:
So should make itโs way across to you at some point.
Good to know that it is in the pipeline.
Will Monzo join the Zelle Network for P2P payments?
Ability to deposit cash,
Currently with my online bank account to deposit cash I need to buy a Money Order, essentially a cheque written by the company selling them, such as the Post Office or Western Union.
They tend to cost less than $2.00, but I still need to deposit it in app or mail it in.
Out of curiosity, would you want to see that implemented as over the counter deposits at partner retailers like in the UK, or would you want to see Monzo US join a shared deposit network to allow cash deposits at ATMs of certain partner banks? The reason I bring that up is that I think implementing the first would be tough as the only two โnetworksโ of that type are Visa ReadyLink (which, by virtue of being a MasterCard, Monzo is precluded from joining) and whatever Wal-Mart has going on with its prepaid cards (fee-free cash and debit card deposits to prepaid cards sold by WalMart at any WalMart). Joining an ATM network that supports shared deposits would probably be easier.
(and now I wonder if N26 went with Visa in the US because they might want to allow cash deposits through ReadyLink in the future)
I think whatever system used by retailers allowing purchase of gift cards and top ups of prepaid cards such as GreenDot, Amazon etc. would be best for most Americans. This would allow Walmart, CVS, RiteAid, Walgreens, Grocery stores, Target and more to allow top ups.
Ideally a shared deposit network to allow cash deposits at ATMs of certain partner banks could
be great but these ATMs are impossible to find, and have never seemed to work for deposits.
Almost all ATMs are owned by the major banks and only take deposits for their customers. So this would be a much worse experience in reality
The main problem I see with that is that looking into it further, it seems that most of those charge (that and I completely forgot about one of them). Green Dot, for example, says theirs varies and is up to $4.95 per cash top-upโฆ wait a minute. Hereโs the website for the Green Dot cash reload network. Open up the list of cards they support cash top-ups to and scroll down to the Mโs. Looks like itโs already available. Well, thatโs some forward thinking. Wonder why my Monzo app doesnโt mention it at all?
I am not surprised as Monzo is using a partner bank. It is likely baked into whoever is the partner.
$4.95 is a bit steep but knowing who the prepaid market in the US, the fees are always exorbitant and applied to those who can least afford it.
I do fear Monzo will get lost in the vast plethora of competitors in the prepaid market.
