With virtual cards linked to pots, you can now technically achieve something like this idea of dedicated merchant pots (linked below). You just have to remember to use the right virtual card at the checkout. Not much help to me yet as the majority of our spending is on our joint account. Otherwise I would use this feature to spend from our food pot every month and have a main balance that’s pretty much purely discretionary spending.

Dedicated Merchant Pots (like Oyster Card payments)

I sent this idea to Monzo on Facebook Messenger but thought it was worth sharing here too. My idea is a Oyster Card Pot, so rather than me having to top up my Oyster Card each week or month, I can move my travel money into a dedicated pot and all transactions that come from Transport for London come automatically from that pot, instead of from my current account. This could also be for other spending areas like a dedicated Coffee pot, so you can dedicate budgets to things in Pots and not have …

I still think the ability to assign merchants to pots would be excellent. It would probably have to pull together a list of recent merchants for the user to choose from and do a little magic behind the scenes to group transactions from the same merchant.
