Owning a home, a fantasy?

Makes sense! Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be an arse, but reading back it could seem that way :joy:

Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and look at these things which is what I was trying to get across (albeit badly). For example, I always wanted to go work abroad but never did. Looking back now though there was no real reason not to at the time but I didn’t think like that then

You’re right in that commuter towns aren’t overly exciting though. The bonus would be that they’re usually cheaper, easy to get into the city if you want to and good for getting to other places outside the city.

I thought buying something was insane but when I looked into it a bit more I realised it is possible with shared ownership. Obviously not the most ideal option but better than nothing.

I’ve seen one bed apartments where I can get a 25% share for £40,000. Obviously helps that i’m living with parents at the moment to save and using a LISA to get the extra bonus.

I never gave a second thought to buying before but i’m really motivated to save now I know it might actually be possible.

Depends where about up here :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:… Edinburgh is incredibly pricey.

What you can pay for a 2 bed flat in Leith can buy you a 4 bed detached house with Garage in Dunfermline (30mins car/train away)

Although nothing like London prices… it’s pricey for the average salary

I have owned a shared ownership property for the last two and a half years. I felt the same originally as I was single and thought why would they choose me. But I got lucky and have had a great house for the last few years. I am now in the process of selling to move in with my fiancé and it’s been a great investment even in the short term. I put down about £9k deposit and managed it on a single person salary. I’m not in London though! Saving that deposit whilst renting was hard enough!
