Monzo's 3% charge for over £200 of withdrawals every 30 days

We’re going with a quadruple Monzo threat.

:monzocard: :monzocard: :monzocard: :monzocard:

My card, my partners and our two joint account cards.

(Plus our two starling cards of course)

Why not bring cards to unfreeze instead/as well?

I didn’t know that was an option?

How do I go about that?

If @anon28680395 means spare Monzo cards, that isn’t a ‘thing’.

Having spare cards knocking about in the wild waiting to be activated is arguably insecure for both customer and bank.

Did seem strange that this would allowed, order a number of new cards but don’t activate them until you lost the first one?

Unsure

It is a thing. I don’t see why it’s insecure though if we trust the app in the first place. And this was recommended to me by Monzo since they don’t offer secondary cardholders for normal accounts.

It works very well for me to have a backup while travelling.

The £200 limit is per person, not per card. If you take £100 on your joint card you would still only be able to take £100 fee free from your personal. But £1200 per 30 days will only cost £30 :woman_shrugging:

If you lose your monzo card they will send you a free replacement. Starling will charge £60

Ah understood, so we have a £900 free limit per 30 days on our Monzo(s). That should be fine to cover us each month, the countries we’ll be in are renowned for being extremely cheap.

Starling will probably just be a fall back option.

Edit: I’ve got that wrong, a £600 limit across two personals and one joint account

No – £400. You and your partner. The personal limit is spread across accounts.

Nope. £200 per person

But an extra £1000 would cost £30, so you’d get £1200 per 30 days for £30

Yes sorry I’m getting my wires crossed, £400 for both of us.

True, it’s not a huge amount, but over 6 months that’s money that could be saved by using the Starling card.

Very true. It’s good to have options :+1:

Exactly my thinking, take as many options as possible! :slightly_smiling_face:

The side discussion about backup cards is nothing to do with withdrawal limit but about e.g. being stuck in Iquitos for 3 months without a bank card.

I know. Which is why I was replying to the original discussion and the OP asking about replacements

You get a monzo replacement within a few days though

I see.

I mentioned it in the context of travel. There are many places in the world where a month is optimistic to receive a replacement and why I suggest bringing multiple spares and a frozen Monzo when travelling.

I’m off to America for 2 and a bit weeks soon and have got Starling for the ATM side if needed. Though I am full Monzo so will probably end up using Starling for all holiday spending to keep the spending separate. To think I originally got Monzo for holiday spending. Oh how the tables have turned :yum:

In summary

Starling
dozens as first backup
Monese/Revolut/Curve as second/third/fourth backup
Maybe Halifax Clarity as the ultimate backstop

Is there a limit to withdraw from uk atm ?

Abroad I understand it’s 3%

And monthly £200 a month which is very less

£400 per day and/or £5500 a month.
