We haven’t decided if we’re doing automatic replacements for fraud reasons yet. We’re going to roll it out for non-fraud replacement reasons and then see how things go.
It all comes down to what kind of fraud occurred for the replacement to be required (cloned magstripe verses an attempted account takeover, for example). In some cases, we can be fairly confident that the digital card has not been compromised, in others we have to work on the assumption that nothing is safe to carry over.
Whatever we do here, in cases of card fraud, you will be able to re-add your replacement card to Apple Pay or Google Pay before you receive it, meaning you will no longer be left without any working cards. A huge improvement on how it previously worked.
