Fixed that for you

Just a brief view but if we included eclairs as part of Monzo Plus we’d triple our subscriptions?

The graph for red velvet cake addition is even better

The only stats we got given from Plus (to my knowledge) is the below. So everything else is just a guess :man_shrugging:

God I need more cake now. This community, I tell ya…

I don’t think charging everyone here is the answer.

There is a nice middle ground where someone is using Monzo’s standard features for free and making us a small amount of money through it being their main bank account. This is very roughly where the vast majority of people using Monzo sit.

At the top end, there are people who are really into their banking and can afford to spend £5/month or even more for a premium experience or extra features. It’s a much smaller group of people but it’s also a lot more money, and this iteration of Plus has been doing very well so far.

There is another group, and that is people whose account usage loses Monzo a significant amount of money. These are people who are generally abusing things such when we did not charge for international delivery of cards, or who are ordering new cards every day/week (yes, people really do try this). This just is not sustainable and we have to learn where and how to draw the line here.

I think it’s fair that Monzo let that large middle group use the service for free and make small amounts of money from a lot of users (especially as many of Monzo’s long standing free features work better with more friends using it!), while looking at fair fees for areas where money is lost through abuse, and provide optional extras for those willing to pay.

I also think that one of the greatest things about the UK is that anyone can open a basic or standard current account at just about every bank for free. This just about universal access to banking is what has allowed the UK to be so advanced in areas such as Bacs payments, Direct Debits, Faster Payments, and contactless card/mobile payments. I would not for one second want to endanger this very special thing we have going in this country.

I saw the word “try”. Perhaps I’m reading too much into it but that would indicate that you refuse to do it on occasion  Which to me it seems totally justifiable.

This just proves that you’re not listening to what I want from PastryPlus.

I want ALL of those. And I want insurance against melting and mould.

Housemates on his 4th card this year, i really dont understand how when weve been in lockdown.

I’d be all for setting a limit of say 2/3 replacements a year for this and then charging.

I never considered how often people would replace a card. Myself only really doing so when it expires.

I guess if Plus cards cost more to produce and there are people replacing cards frequently, it explains why they chose to charge for them.

If be willing to pay for cheesecake, maybe a different flavour each time?

Send a card and a cupcake to users on their Plus anniversary!

So it’s settled then the way to revive Monzo is that it’ll become a pastry subscription service where you get a current account as a benefit.

I will be CASSing to starling or nationwide in a flash if they ever did that.

I like monzo but a current account should be free, I use monzo as my main account so they likely make money off it.

their plustiversary?

I used my Plus ‘free’ PayPoint deposit today #winning

I would guess that less than 1 in 100 customers would take plus. Would a more radical approach, like charging everyone 50p a month to bank with Monzo raise more income and democratise the feature set…?

I do not know how representative it is but a lot of the posts suggest that Monzo attracts a certain type of customer who lives hand to mouth so I doubt they would go for it…

I do remember when Monzo was called Mondo there was a fin tech company that had a similar deal to Revolut in that it wasn’t an actual bank but it charged for all the accounts it provided.

Strangely I’ve not been able to find any mention of it recently.

Before Monzo, I’d replace my bank card once a year to avoid my details being too “out there”. I didn’t feel the need with Monzo, because of the visibility AND virtual cards now completely solve that worry.

I think they should just take £1 off people’s balances every month and see whether anybody notices. Assuming 4 million customers, that’s a decent chunk of revenue every month.

Edit: for the avoidance of doubt this is, quite obviously, a joke.
