Amex (American Express) Discussion

Yes, I’ve just the Rewards card myself, never booked flights on the card before.

I guess it’s linked to previous spending then. I can see why they’ve done it that way, but it would have been nice for previous customers to have at least got a reduced offer.

Just because I’ve flown with them recently doesn’t mean I won’t pick an easyJet or a Eurowings or something over BA for my next flight.

Oh well, it is what it is.

Closest I’ve got is 10% off the Heathrow Express. :frowning:

No they don’t - but Amex and Expedia have tangled together in a few ways.

American Express outsources its online booking platform (Amex travel). Expedia is the contractor in the UK and US and the website is just reskinned Expedia with FHR rates added.

Amex also spun out their corporate travel agency and floated it as AMEX Global Business Travel (GBT) whilst retaining a minority stake. GBT later acquired Egencia from Expedia in a cash plus equities deal - meaning both Expedia and American Express are minority shareholders in AMEX Global Business Travel.

Christmas flights for me and boyfriend all booked. With a 10% back from AMEX

Hoping he not on this forum. As this trip is meant to be a surprise xD

It’s not new, is it not?

I used this benefit back at the beginning of March.

To be honest, I don’t think they tell us about everything.

Gotta keep on top of it all!

I hope you haven’t added their executive club number to the booking! Someone I work with made that mistake and had their surprise ruined :joy:

It has been around for ages. The Centurion version also give you access to Bicester’s lounge and private sales rooms at certain brands.

Maybe Bicester would replace Harvey Nichols - either way I hate it.

Me and my Boyfriend both considered downgrading or just one of us keeping the card. But we decided to keep it as we travel quite a lot. Also we prefer the Centurion Lounges wherever we can use them.

I would say that if you dont live in a major city then the card is pretty useless!

Very disappointing ‘benefit’. Last time I had the misfortune to go to Bicester Village it seemed like its sole purpose is kettling coachloads of chainsmoking tourists into outlet tat stores.

Likewise! I’ve upgraded then downgrade and re-upgraded for travel. But it’s really not worth it as the offers are poor!

FYI, if you have Amex Platinum and therefore Hilton Honours Gold, you can buy BA Exec Club Bronze equivalent status for about £38.
You’ll get free seat selection 7-days before, priority check-in and priority boarding.

Silver is also available as a status match for a higher fee, plus you’ll need to have decent Hotel status.

There’s a small amount of juggling you need to do with your bookings to make it work, but it’s worth it overall.

Update, I submitted my application yesterday evening and it’s already been approved. The email this morning says I should allow 5 business days for the status to show in my Royal Club account.

I have my BA241 return leg from an airport where I could very much do with priority check-in in 4 business days time, so we’ll see…

Anybody having trouble with Amex via gpay in Tesco? Fairly often it’s been asking me to insert the card (which I generally don’t have with me). Mostly when it’s over £100, but sometimes for lower amounts.

Tesco have a hard limit (I think £100?) for contactless transactions of any sort. You can use the Tesco app to make higher payments (up to £250) in store without a physical card:

How long do you retain the BA status for?

I’d think it would be a year, but it depends on whether RJ do the whole membership year thing too.

It could be longer than a year, but I guess I’ll have a better idea once my status has updated.
