You’ve got like 300 real bank accounts open, and you’ve still chosen to move your day to day spending to a non-bank? Just go with Monzo or Revolut. ![]()
It’s only 34 ![]()
True, but they’re not going under anytime soon, and with the amount I have with them it’s not an issue.
I’ve been using Monzo for about a year full time now, aside from a slight hissy fit when I went to Starling and Nationwide for 5 days
. I don’t have Revolut. I just wanna test Wise out as I like the look of the app. I’ll probably be back with Monzo before long.
I didn’t mean the risk of them going under. I’m just more inclined to ignore EMIs, when there are so many decent offerings from real banks now. You are spoilt for choice in the UK.
I’d only consider Wise for international spend, at a push and if their rates stack up.
You do you though. Enjoy Wise. ![]()
Be less reactive. ![]()
Don’t speak too soon. I thought those reels about millennials starting to increase font size on our phones were made by some begrudging Gen Z until I had to crank up the font size on my phone today. ![]()
I fear the day all my banking activities need to be on a big screen is sooner than I anticipated. ![]()
I very rarely use online banking nowadays, especially when you actually need your phone to log in to the online banking with many of them.
More incentive for EMI (or ex-EMI like Revolut) to take an even harder line on AML.. More sudden account closures to come.
do you think this is the end for wise
I think that statement would be incredibly premature… I’m sure Wise will be fine.
its decent people that are most likely to have there account closed when it should be the accounts that are being used for criminal activity
“Decent” people won’t have their accounts closed because they will have been abiding by the rules.
The latter I could not care less about.
Just withdrawn my 47p from Wise.
Better to be safe than sorry.
I think Wise are more relaxed. I see more and more people in countries not eligible to open accounts have them freely and know where to even get them from though third party “payroll” services. They get accounts with full features of sending and receiving money.
Not the restricted versions.
Is anyone else’s Wise app flipping between the last look and the new look or is this just me? Refreshing the page causes it to change from the old → new or new → old. Very weird.
Stop refreshing it then ![]()
Could be A/B testing, but it’d be a weird way to do it.
To be honest, when fintech started to become more popular I kind of expected Wise to be the most boring part of it. In reality, I think they’ve actually nailed it better than others (besides that one part of the UI, I think it would be better if they let you pin 4 currencies on the new design).
Like… think about it. Monzo et al offer you a card. They offer you the same banking products with different rates and a nicer app.
Wise offer you… global payments, regardless of if the country takes your card or not. They have that option, but they also offer QR payments in markets from Hong Kong to the US and anywhere in between via Alipay+. They integrate with local schemes as well in places like Hungary and Switzerland.
They offer local details, able to make direct debits and they charge a reasonable fee for sending money either way. They’re not hardwired into only letting you send money from X country you’re registered in either, you can send money from outside of the UK into your UK Wise account (or other UK account) using Wise itself.
Have you tried force closing it? Or re-insane the app.
Some time back I had weird behaviour and they told me the fix was to remove the app and re-instal and it was fixed
I have a euro account i use to pay my fullie toll tag when i go to france
I have seen that for some weeks for my DDs and scheduled payments
Nice. Anyone gonna try an inbound bacs payment? ![]()
