NatWest or RBS? Is there actually any difference?

For anyone that has initiated a switch into RBS/natwest. Did you get an email or any kind of communication after filling in the switch form?.

This is what I got:

We’re getting your account ready
Hi SAQIB,

We’ve got good news. Your SELECT account will be available very soon. Thanks for opening an account with us, we can’t wait to have you onboard.

We just need to run a few checks and you’ll be good to go. In the meantime, we’ll text you the account number and sort code we’ve reserved for you.

Once we’re happy we’ll activate your account within two business days. We’ll be in touch if we need anything else from you.

How will I know when I can use my account?

When your account is ready, you’ll be able to see it in your NatWest App or when you log into your Online Banking.

We’ll also send a confirmation letter, with your sort code and account number, to your Online Banking Mailbox.

ah ok , I am switching into an existing account so wondering if that’s why I haven’t had any comms.

Hello. Yes i got one within a few hours an email to confirm the switch request and also a text message.

Oh interesting. I haven’t received anything specifically about the switch, only that the new account has been opened. I hope it registered my switch request!

Haven’t had confirmation yet my account was actually successful but I’ve just got a message that the switch has started.

Still have not heard anything from Natwest about the actual switch like some of these messages others are receiving, but I have just had an email from the previous bank saying they’ve received the switch request so I guess it’s def happening!

Annoyingly, Natwest are saying they are sending out a card reader needed to make payments out of the account, which will arrive in 7 days - meaning I think I can’t transfer my money back out until I receive it.

Do you have one from a different bank? I’m sure you can use any card reader.

Unfortunately not, Barclays uses the phone app to generate the security codes, and Monzo doesn’t have an equivalent. Either way I actually haven’t received the card from NatWest yet anyway.

It’s ok I can manage for the week, just annoying as I was only planning to leave the money in there for the required 24 hours.

Just an FYI for others planning to do the same!

Only thing I can think is electoral register entry not live yet. All my other bills and accounts are linked here.

Seems strange they didn’t ask you to go into bank to verify ID or give us a call to chat to them

Not sure NatWest do that?

I was asked to, but it was when opening an ‘adapt’ account years ago so perhaps they don’t ask over 18s to visit branch with ID.

EDIT For purposes of account opening, as opposed to KYC with suspected money laundering on existing accounts

I’m aware it states they won’t pay out if you’ve had a bribe from any of the sister banks since 2020 but is anyone chancing it to see if they pay out :eyes::eyes:? I got an RBS one last year & was tempted to try it just to see :joy:

You can chance it. Last time I got a bonus each from RBS, NatWest and Ulster

What a ride, it has been activated.

Bring on the bribe :money_mouth_face::moneybag:

Edit: can now register for the online access which gives the customer number and sets the details needed for the app. Now able to login to app! :raised_hands:

Looks like they fired the person responsible for the terms since last time as it’s no longer a specific period.

Shame ÂŁ600 would be nice.

Still says can’t verify me even amending my address to how the council will have it.

Will go branch next week if I get chance.
