ffs I just bought a Kindle 3 weeks ago
Had a kindle once, loved it. But now I’m almost all audio book, still sometimes I think about it and this is sorely tempting. If the D&D handbooks were available on it I’d definitely buy it! But they aren’t
Mum reads all the time, but now she has the library apps (libby/overdrive) she has abandoned her traditional kindle and now have a fire tab 8.
That kinds looks amazing, though the tech is incredible.
Took me until 2020 lockdown to get into Kindle vs Paper, I still buy paperbacks of books I really enjoyed on Kindle, sort of like my own archive.
Completely agree but that’s also somewhat balanced by the inconvenience of books . They are heavy to carry around, you can’t easily hold them in one hand, and I only have so much shelf space.
To be honest ideally every book I’m reading, I’d have the physical book, the audiobook and the kindle edition and would flick between them all.
I still buy the odd book I really care about in hardback just for fun.
But I have no interest at all in reading a physical book. The convenience of ebooks just wins in every way. I get this is a thing for some people, but I couldn’t care less about the touch and smell of paper any more than the texture and worse sound quality of vinyl.
Colour is a nice to have feature, but ultimately I’m not willing to pay a premium for it to read black text on a light background.
More for comics, manga, graphic novels etc, wouldn’t be worth it if you only read normal books.
Also just to give another +1 to Kindle vs Paperback, I read 4 books on holiday last week, ain’t lugging that around.
I keep meaning to switch all of our plug sockets for ones that include USB ports too.
I can’t be bothered with the hassle or expense though
Nah he has a shopping addiction.
While you may still experience that initial rush of endorphins and dopamine when you buy something, it’s likely that these temporary feelings of excitement give way to guilt, shame and anxiety in the immediate aftermath of making a purchase.
Yeah I’m struggling to get into it.
I only really bought it for travelling with as I was struggling to books into my bags for work/holidays.
But I am running out of space for physical books at home!
We have USB sockets and they’re no way near good as just using proper chargers. Both for speed and number of ports.
This is the only push I have to buy one. I want to but I love a physical book too.
I wish physical books all came with a free e-version…
That’s why I just buy both, most kindle books are <£5 anyway. If I enjoy the book I buy the physical book and add it to my bookcase.
You can probably borrow the ebook or the physical book from a library and buy the other (or borrow both!) although that’s admin I guess and not everything is available through the library platforms
There’s one publisher called Verso that gives you a free ebook if you buy physical
Any suggestions on a decibel meter?
I have a rather loud neighbour; their kitchen/living space wall runs along my bedroom wall.
I have a feeling the wall does not meet regs of sound proofing considerations for a party wall, and most certainly isn’t 200mm to building regs (I can literally hear the whole process of boiling eggs on a morning, even hear the water boiling).
Anyway; keeps me awake no end along with the continuous loud shouting at his kid between 6-8am which, after 9 months is becoming more unbearable than ever; even with ear plugs in.
So yeah, I have a complaint with the agents, and it’ll go to ombudsman but I’ll need evidence to support my claim, so a decibel meter suggestion would be good.
Have you spoken to the local authority? They can do noise tests themselves.
Ah I wasn’t aware, I will look into that!
@Carlo1460 you can get one rs pro
I love my Airpods 4 with the Noise Cancellation, I had the Airpods Max and hated the pain it gave me from the restrictive bend and overall small size and these things just blow it out of the park!
