So after six years I’ve finally got around to updating my iPad. It just never felt that urgent before given the mini 5 could still run the latest iOS versions.

Plumped for the normal sized iPad since I fancied a slightly bigger screen. Luckily Apple Intelligence is a bit naff, because I assumed it would just have it, but the base one doesn’t.

It’s like having a small laptop now :joy:

I’m tempted to get an iPad, I just wish they’d have profiles so my wife and I can share it.

I also want 120hz but don’t want to pay for the pro model, hoping it comes to the air in the near future.

If pro motion is key then get an apple refurbished pro for same price as an air roughly. Worth it for Face ID too and m2 is no slouch for an iPad. £759 for a refurbished m4 but don’t think it is worth it (although is 256 rather than 128 storage)

Agreed - I have that model iPad and it still feels really quick and smooth. It still copes fine with everything I throw at it.

I suppose the only down side for me is how many years of iOS upgrades it has - assume maybe 3 more?

And if apple intelligence ever got intelligent to the point where it was useful, this model wouldn’t receive it.

But that’s the only cons I can think of for me buying a refurb model.

Years. A12X iPad from 2018 still supported. M2 will get good few years of support. M series was such a step up and still loads of A series iPads including the current base model. I can’t see dropping M2 for a very long time on support. I do think once they start dropping m series support it will get back to a regular rhythm of dropping support though. No idea when that will be though.

100 %. My previous iPad was a 2019 mini 5, and while it’s not got Apple Intelligence it’s sill getting the latest betas over 7 years later. The battery was sill holding well and he performance wasn’t too bad.
