Out of curiosity have you ever had an automatic credit limit increase from VM? I’ve got their Atlantic card but my limit is quite low.
I think I can request an increase after 6 months but my account is set to automatically accept any limit increase.

Well well well. ![]()
Not yet as it’s a new card. Only had it 2 months but I have set it to automatically accept increases.
Go on…
How do people rate the Nationwide credit card? Is it fully featured in the app? I know some banks credit cards seem to be stuck in past compared to their debits
Can you see the card in app, freeze, add to Apple Pay etc
No weird payment methods like FD setting up CC as a new payee?
Transaction list same as debit with logos? For a while NatWest only had logos for debit cards not credit cards
All credit cards I have had have basic features but the things to be aware of with the Nationwide card are;
Yes, both watch and iPhone.
You don’t manually set it up, it gets automatically added and you can select it to pay your balance.
We did this, then they sent a letter 2 weeks later saying I had to phone to prove it was me who wanted the additional card
foolishly assumed us going in person would remove any doubt but apparently not!
Did they call the same number you put on that form they didn’t trust? ![]()

Turns out they said they couldn’t verify it was me in branch because they didn’t have my signature on file, even though I signed the additional card holder form.
Apparently me phoning and saying it was deffo me, proves the signature on the form is actually mine… ![]()
Slight change to my setup… NatWest is now my main and Nationwide my secondary.
I’m not much of a switcher (unlike some), so this will be it for a good few years now.
The NatWest app has to be the best legacy banking app I’ve used so far. I’m impressed.
Have to agree, if I was to go back to legacy it would be likely to be Natwest
They have the most “fintech” like app so far imo and they seem to constantly be added features etc to the app
And the app seems polished. I haven’t really noticed any inconsistencies or design issues yet.
100% agree, when I moved from Starling to Nationwide it was mostly due to having Nationwide accounts already and didn’t want to do any more hard searches. Otherwise it would have been NatWest
NatWest always impressed me as a high street bank, they’ve done a lot to improve their app and its features.
I’ve moved my spending back to Starling from HSBC, but the bills will likely remain in my HSBC joint account.
The app’s not too bad but I eventually lost patience with all transactions being in a pending state until the next day, including incoming BACS payments, DDs, FPs, etc. Also not knowing if a DD had actually been set up until the first payment was taken. Odd notification behaviour, too. Notifications for one-off payments but not subscriptions. No DD notifications other than the very first one.
The pending thing was the worst, though - looked very odd in Emma and other apps that use Open Banking data.
Who do you bank with @mikez? Monzo from memory?
Agreed I’ve used nearly every mainstream banking app and NatWest is the best IMO. I prefer them as a bank out of all the old school options.
I also like that when you call them it automatically asks you to confirm your identify using biometrics in the app while you’re waiting for an advisor, no need for passwords etc.
My local branch has a free coin counting machine as well which I’ve used a few times. I also rarely carry a physical card now as can withdraw cash using the NatWest app at theirs or Tesco atms.
I hope they fix their Apple Pay card images as the mis-aligned logos annoy me more than they should, I’ve submitted it as feedback.
If they could also get virtual cards to be generated quicker, and speed up things like new accounts appearing on the app and increased overdrafts taking a day to update. Add in 0% foreign transaction fees, I can’t think of much else I’d want from a bank.
I can see why those issues would be annoying.
Personally, whether a payment is pending or not doesn’t really matter to me. I don’t use budgeting features (I spend what I spend) or 3rd party apps via Open Banking.
As long as I’m aware that a payment has been authorised, I’m not really interested in what happens after that point.
Much the same for DDs. Once I’ve set them up, they likely won’t change again for many years at a time, so not being able to see new ones until the first payment is taken wouldn’t cause too much upset.
I can see why some people might find those issues a dealbreaker though.
Coming from Nationwide, NatWest still feels like a significant app upgrade.
