What films do you recommend?

The end fight of Godzilla x Kong wasn’t too bad.

I did wonder how many millions lost their lives in that 25 minute rumble.

Atlas movie on Netflix is very very good. All about Ai if your into that

Heard about that, but the fact it’s Jennifer Lopez starring puts me off.

Is it a remake of something? Because I’m sure I’ve seen a movie with the same name and similar sounding plot in the past.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - Watched this few nights ago, worth a watch I’d say but not as good as the likes of the man from uncle etc. Starting to feel like Guy Ritchie is just throwing out movies for the sake of it now.

I mean there’s “the creator” and “I am mother” which is kind of similar. I don’t think she was to bad in this tbh

The film was ok.

Watched it on Friday. It’s OK - entertaining. Great visuals but a predictable story.
The ‘villain’ is the least villainous villain I’ve seen in a film for a while though. That character should have been so much bigger/powerful.

Oh yeah 100%, would like for the AI to win but hey that wouldn’t make a movie now would it. Does feel like its very close to the new Mission Impossible with the AI being able to take over other AI

Going to the cinema to see Furiosa in a bit - hope it’s good!

I saw a Verge article that it had come to Netflix, but when I launched the app, it was nowhere to be seen so I had to search to find it.

Awesome movie.

Shocked, but not wholly surprised. For whatever reason, the streaming giants don’t really value what they have. As the article says, a new Miike should be an event.

That said, I can’t actually watch it myself as I’m currently Netflix-less. Might have to (re-)watch my DVD of Ichi the Killer instead.

They’re at it again. This time with Richard Linklater. Hit Man is out, but can anyone see it on their Netflix home page or do you have to search for it?

It’s all algorithm based isn’t it? If Netflix don’t think you’ll like it, they won’t show it to you, unless it gets onto their charts.

I think there’s something of a two-part argument here:

  • Being entirely algorithm-based is never going to give big movies the promotion they deserve

  • No-one has been able to put their hand up yet to say “the algorithm has shown me this”

I know anecdote != data and all that, but when you see people saying they’d love this or that but Netflix isn’t letting them know about it, you have to question if they’ve got the algorithm right.

(Also, the effect of this is Netflix get themselves in a stupid spiral of spending money making stuff, releasing it to no fanfare, and then being all surprised Pikachu when no-one watches and they sadly cancel further plans)

It’s always felt algorithm based to me. But more in a way to keep you on the app scrolling to find stuff than actually showing you what you want to watch, unless it’s a flagship show they want to make an event out of it, so push it to everyone.

Sometimes it makes sense though.

Godzilla minus one for instance. I love Godzilla, but I’ve never given Netflix a reason to suspect that. I haven’t seen their animated Godzilla films (don’t like the art style, same thing that put me off the league of legends show about 5 minutes into it). I only don’t tend to watch or enjoy Oscar winners. And I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything Japanese on there, and maybe just one or two foreign language shows. So they have every justification to assume I won’t be interested.

And then we have Jurassic World Chaos Theory. Now that is something they must have known I wanted to see and would probably like. But was nowhere to be found. I watched and loved camp Cretaceous, binging quite fast the day it came out. I’ve watched all the Jurassic films they’ve ever had on there too. And I’ve watched and loved other dreamworks Netflix shows, like the How to train your dragon spin offs.

If Chaos Theory fails and winds up cancelled, it’s because they failed to promote it properly to the audience who wanted it, because I’m not alone in my experience with that show. It’s not helped by being a sequel show rather than a new season of the old show either.

Just seen Inside Out 2

Obviously Disney put all their effort into that, rather than Wish…

They had some great visual gags, like when the emotions ‘spill a physical cup of tea’ then the character spills the tea, it’s great. I love little things like that

I watched Wish the other weekend.

The star when it makes a dress thing, prances around and then the goat says “finally I feel seen” :joy::skull:
