No worries. Brussels Airlines accepted the card but only accept physical cards which is unrelated here. But I thought interesting.
With greatest of respect you’ve been saying this for over a year now. What exactly is happening? It’s a clear cut violation of Mastercard rules.
What is there to talk about? How long do these talks take? Some airlines are in clear violation of the rules. Shouldn’t you be pressuring Mastercard alone? It is them who can make the airlines change policy, not yourselves. Sounds like a load of waffle that has been repeated for years.
Last time it was that airlines don’t like Monzo but they’ve spoken to them and it should now be fine. Clearly not
That was in July 2022
If I were Monzo just publish an official statement on your social media stating that you’re aware that customers are being refused and this is in violation of Mastercard rules, stating you’ve been in contact with the airlines and Mastercard and showing you’ve done what you can.
The public acknowledgement should at least put some pressure on the airlines and let everyone know you’re at least bothered by it.
Mastercard either don’t, won’t, or simply cannot enforce their rules of accepting Mastercard onto merchants who accept it. So you wind up having to try to resolve these things with the merchant directly, who are often reluctant or steadfast in refusing to do so.
There’s also no law to stipulate that a merchant must accept a particular card from a particular bank or issuer, nor that they cannon discriminate against a particular bank or issuer. So Monzo are in a bit of a pickle, and hassling the airlines until they cave is really the only thing they can do.
Given how much Monzo has been advertised as the perfect card to take abroad you’d think they’d put more effort into making it accepted on planes.
