Anyone else had this just pop up?
No, because I already open my app with biometrics (android)
Assuming this is Monzo.
Iāve not had anything (iOS app).
I wasnāt aware we could lock the app if Iām honest, Iāve never cared to check, but the fact that it will be turned on for me by 4th Febā¦?
This is Android btw.
Not had this screen warning of a āforced biometric unlockā, but I have had to use biometrics a couple of days today when doing certain actions that didnāt used to ask before. Things like simply viewing my transaction history for my joint account and looking at scheduled payments.
I havenāt had this and I donāt want it either. Iām happy that I can open Monzo and see my balances without any sort of lock.
At least it will put an end to the recurring arguments about needing an app PIN.
I can for sure, see some people having a problem with this
However, I can also see it from a normal personās perspective, You hand your phone to your friend they can just access your bank app, While, thatās not really a big deal As they canāt transfer or set up a payee Without authorisation, I think itās a good thing that itās going to force biometric use
I mean, if youāre touching the screen to open the app anyway, you may as well just move your finger the 2 mm to touch the fingerprint reader
Itās how Iāve been using my app for months, if not years
I use my toe for biometric authentication
If it still falls back to device passcode, then nah. Itās pointless security theatre in that execution.
So the arguments should and will continue if they havenāt implemented this properly. Because itās the nature of the fallback that is the crux of the issue, not that it isnāt forced. But folks arguing against it keep missing that point.
If this forced authentication falls back to device passcode, then itās a solution neither side of the argument actually wants. It doesnāt fix or improve anything. It just creates the illusion of better security.
Been using biometrics for ages on the Monzo app (Android).
Me too. And if you donāt like it, simply turn it off.
Which I have, but I think this topic is highlighting that soon turning it off wonāt be an option.
The OP screenshot doesnāt confirm (or mention) this. The rest is speculation.
I wouldnāt mind enabling this myself, but unlike other banking apps that all have default biometrics to login, there is no wait period before asking again. So if you switch between apps it keeps asking for biometrics everytime you switch back - should be a cooldown imo
The screenshot says
If you choose not to turn it on now, weāll turn it on for you by 4 February 2025.
It clearly states that. And it also clearly does not state that you cannot turn it off after the āauto-deadlineā
Personally, I think it should be used and itās no big deal just stretching the old digit to log in. However, I respect those that find it a chore and prefer it to be off. Each to their own. On 5.2.2025 we can see if there is the option to turn it off.
I canāt have Monzo anymore they blocked me and I canāt open app anymore I was try many time. really struggling for the life
