I’d love this, but unfortunately, I don’t see it ever happening while our country remains allied to Israel and supportive of their actions. It would be too divisive a political statement, in contrast to Ukraine where sympathy is relatively universal and so much less controversial.
It feels like the tide might finally be turning on that front.
I do pity the Palestinians and Lebanese. It’s very, very sad that they find themselves in this position.
However, both Hamas and Hezbollah are very well funded indeed by Iran and both have the specific objective of eliminating Jews everywhere.
There’s just no easy solution to this.
Monzo didn’t silence you. I did. You racist moron.
Let’s be clear, Israel’s 76 year campaign of dehumanisation, occupation, ethnic cleansing, racism and genocide against the Palestinians is the route cause of the problem. Hamas and Hezbollah have only been around since the 80s
This thread can go nowhere good…
Exactly, which is why I did something that I’ve hardly ever done before and attempt to flag the second post in the thread. @Revels beat me to it, though.
It was divisive and unhelpful (the post, not @Revels )
I can’t imagine anyone would create this with good intent, they are either selfish enough to expect a bank to adopt their controversial political views or just want to have a chuckle as they watch the inevitable chaos that will come from this thread
And it doesn’t matter what your opinions are regarding the conflict, above applies to suggesting “solidarity flags” on both sides
I don’t think it’s selfish to want to show support to Palestine. It’s normal for people to stand up and call out the wrongdoing that continues to occur in Gaza and the West Bank. This is not a controversial view.
I don’t feel like this is appropriate for Monzo community.
That’s true, but it’s not fair to put that onto a bank that will inevitably cause endless drama and controversy. You can show support in a number of more effective ways
Why?
An icon is not gonna solve anything….
Plus these kind of topics never end well.
Whilst I do sympathise with what’s going on it’s just not a great topic
It’s a topic that by nature always turns toxic, and there are many other places on the internet to discuss it with millions of other people
Highlighting issues that supporters of Israel find toxic, isn’t a reason to end the discussion.
Nothing I’ve said is untrue.
Especially when you can already customise icons on iOS and Android if you so desire, go and rally and show support for whatever cause you desire where the people affected can actually see your support
As nice as the Monzo for Ukraine icon is, it’s helped exactly zero people fighting in Ukraine. If it was something that a large proportion of the population or customer base found controversial, I doubt it would’ve been added. The support for Ukraine is rightly something the majority agree on
I’d have the exact same reply if the post was add a solidarity a flag for Israel. My point is it’s a bank, it’s not use to anyone to add icons especially when users can already customise it themselves
But let’s play with the idea for a second, if Monzo were to add a Palestine or Israel icon, would you prefer they added just one or both of them? And do you acknowledge that if they add just one people will inevitably infer that as Monzos position in the matter?
Give people the choice. I don’t think Monzo would weigh in on this particular conflict by choosing sides, nor was I suggesting they should. The original post was about the option of showing personal support.
