I was about to say you’d posted it in the wrong thread
Amazing.
Alexander might be even more iconic than Linda.
Winners were a bit meh. But an excellent, tense episode.
Lock the topic. I’m done.
Shame Alexander and Frankie didn’t make it. Feel a bit meh about the winners. I reckon the Seer power plus the change to the End Game makes it a weaker end game. Maybe the Seer shouldn’t come right before the final.
Either way, good fun, enjoying them all on Uncloaked
Absolutely gutted Alexander and Francesca were banished, I was really hoping they’d win in the end. Fantastic final though. I’m so completely anti-reality TV I am shocked how much I got into this show this year…
Haven’t watched the finale yet, but I woke up to the Metro spoiling it by way of the Apple News widget on my iPhone Home Screen this morning.
Why is no one courteous with their headlines and associated photos? Pretty sure it was a metro link that spoiled Thursday’s episode on Reddit too.
I’m fuming.
I’m sympathetic to a degree. But it is such a big programme, you must have known it would be spoilt unless you watched it last night (not necessarily live).
I’m not sure it is news outlets job to be courteous. By definition they are there to provide news, no reason for it not to be in the headlines.
I wish news sites didn’t do it, but I am fully aware that they do so if I do miss a show, I either accept I’m likely to see a spoiler or just a avoid the internet completely.
I didn’t have any free time to watch it yesterday, I would have made the time to watch it live if I could have done. I don’t even have time to watch any tv today either. And I’d intended to stay off safari completely until I’d watched it tomorrow.
I didn’t anticipate it showing up in my Smart Stack widget, when my phone greets me good morning, with a headline naming the winners and how much they won, accompanied by a photo of the moment they won. If there’s ever a justifiable moment for clickbait, that was it. It’s just courteous. Leave the spoilers for the actual article. Don’t name the winner in the headline, or have the promotional thumbnail a screencap of the moment they won. I shouldn’t have to worry about tv spoilers showing up as a breaking news article on phone’s Home Screen. Especially not the night after one of the worst storms to ever hit the country,
It’s ultimately a pre-recorded television series primarily intended (at least until this season) for an on demand streaming audience, filled to the brim with tense cliffhangers. The comparative equivalent would be posting a breaking news article at 3am UK time announcing the name of the character which died in the finale of game of thrones, accompanied by a photo of their corpse immediately after it aired on Sky Atlantic.
It’s not a live event like Eurovision, or the Oscars, for instance, or even I’m a Celebrity or Big Brother (which were both far easier to avoid; I still don’t know who won either in their most recent series) where mainstream media spoiling the result matters much less.
I can’t lie, I was nervous for you from the moment you mentioned you did this:
I have to avoid spoilers fairly often if I’ve missed an F1 race for example and want to watch back in full later, in those cases I basically just avoid social media and avoid using my phone as much as possible - which fair enough you then did.
I don’t really mind people posting stuff, sharing their opinions etc. in those situations if I see a spoiler, I put the onus on me for putting myself in the situation where I could see a spoiler in the first place, not the person excited share the news with their friends (or strangers on a banking forum on the internet).
I don’t really have strong opinions either way on the news article thing, I get both sides of the argument. For me the bigger unexpected is the article showing up on your Smart Stack. You can plan to avoid spoilers all you want, but it will be this unexpected stuff that catches you off-guard.
I hope you’re still able to enjoy the final regardless, and hopefully it doesn’t happen again for the US series.
Learned my lesson with that and moved to jotting them down in the notes app instead, staying off this thread (it’s the only place I come to discuss it).
I haven’t started the US one yet, and so far have avoided spoilers. Honestly it wasn’t difficult avoiding spoilers for the UK one either at first either (I didn’t really have to alter anything, and I’ve been a day behind everyone else), but they seem to have really ramped up this week.
Someone at Metro might be lurking here, because the spoiler has been removed from the headline now.
That was so good!
Gutted for the last two banishments but well played.
Not sure I could handle my emotions being in the game. It’s been emotional enough just watching
I doubt this was the only place on the internet people complained
Artcle image has a slight spoiler for last few episodes so have posted link in spoiler
Finally watched the finale! Brief thoughts:
I love the seer twist, but I think it ultimately was inconsequential, only giving the deck a bit of a shuffle than changing the game, and I think part of that is down to the other twist of not revealing identities. I think it’d have been more impactful (albeit perhaps overpowered) without the other twist. I think in that format it’s more a curse than a superpower, but that could just come down to how you play it.
The final challenge was a bit underwhelming compared to past years.
Loved the kitchen chat with Charlotte and Francesca, and I’m glad they had the moment, I think they needed it.
I’m a bit bummed that Francesca and Alexander didn’t win. I think they really needed to solidify and work together in order for that outcome to be attainable, but Alexander and Leanne didn’t trust one another, and although Leanne didn’t trust Francesca in the end, she was never going to go against Leanne either. So it was all felt a bit inevitable and bittersweet.
I am thrilled for Jake though. IMO, no one deserved it more. I think he approached the game as a faithful the way you should do (not so selfishly like most of the rest of the group) and busted a few traitors along the way. So I’m glad he won and I feel vindicated in that the right player won, whilst simultaneously representing a huge FU to Dan’s nastiness back in week 1.
Now to get caught up with the US version… early impressions so far are that Alan is better than ever and I still love him in the role. For as great as Claudia is (and should be the one to finally dethrone Ant and Dec because of it) I do think Alan is even better.
Also just started season 3 of the US version. Only seen episode 1 so far.
I will never prefer Alan I think. I just feel Claudia’s more natural way of presenting it works for me. It isn’t as over-the-top and helps build the mystery and tension more than Alan does. That’s not to say he’s bad though. I still enjoy him
I will also never prefer the use of reality TV people, but I do find them fun and it’s good to see just how tactical they can be as they are used to this type of show. Can’t really remember anyones name after the first episode but seems like there are some good people on it. Also interesting to the differences between the two versions, especially with the twist at the end which is their equivalent to the train twist. Looking forward to watching some more! Then I have to watch the NZ version which I’ve not seen yet
I haven’t started US Season 3 yet, but on the debate of Alan vs Claudia, I think it’s because the 2 of them approached presenting it in a very different way.
Claudia is presenting it as herself and what she says and does on the show is the same as what she does in her other work - presenting Strictly/on the radio etc. So, you feel it’s just her looking after the contestants.
Alan is presenting as a character - the ‘Laird of the Castle’, so he’s playing it as a caricature so it’s not really ‘Alan’ you’re seeing. It’s the role he’s playing - a role that I think they tried to imply is a take on the ‘British stereotype’ (on US TV) of Brits being the ‘mean’ one (ie - Simon Cowell, Gordan Ramsey) with Alan tormenting the poor contestants with fiendish challenges. That’s not a bad thing - but just interesting that they went with a stronger narrative in the US version.
Personally, I prefer Claudia - but that’s because I generally like her anyway.
I’m 100% no shame love her in every way team Claudia.
Alan grates me. So hard. So badly.
Managed to make a start on the US season 3. Some thoughts on the first two episodes. Hopefully going to get fully caught up before the next episode (episode 7 I think) is out on Friday.
Episode 1 thoughts:
Have I mentioned how much I love Alan? Because I love Alan. His introduction, and the way he introduced the show was quite the spectacle.
Their twist wasn’t as good as the U.K. one.
Early impressions of the group are no standout favourite so far. As a group, I like them more, collectively than the U.K. bunch. The traitor picks are interesting.
Episode 2 thoughts:
Tension in the turret and they haven’t even killed anyone yet!
Danielle is annoying me as a traitor. She thinks she knows everything, is the best, but actually is the opposite. Then at breakfast, telling them the actual thinking behind her choice as a theory to try to pin it on the housewives. Let others come to that conclusion on their own or you’re the first one before once the housewives are gone. Carolyn is the only likeable one among the traitors for me. Bob is too similar to Danielle, only stands out much more, so will probably be the first to go.
I think I’m enjoying the housewives best, when they have an actual clue, they’re excellent television. But they’re absent a Phaedra this season.
I love Wes. I love Ayan too, even if she’s terrible at the game.
Their first round table was quite something. They’re all terrified to speak. The game players especially, with the bigger personalities from that bunch fading completely into the background. And they’re somehow more divided than the U.K. lot.
The applause! Loved that.
Someone please take over for Wells in teaching Ayan the game! I think she’ll bet rather good at it once she’s got the gist. You could see the lightbulb go off in her when Bob was mentioned as a potential traitor.
My non-spoiler thoughts:
I’m really not a fan of the whole reality TV cast thing where they all go off into their own show cliques.
That said, the dynamic between the cast makes it a completely different show to the UK version which actually makes it enjoyable to watch.
The vast majority of them are self-centred pricks. If you thought the main character energy in the UK was bad, you’ve seen nothing yet!
The difference in approach this brings in some of the challenges between the UK and US versions is stark.
Oh and BTDQ is everything!
